Another Toro Greensmaster Flex 2120 finished up and about to head home!

Mower came in after hitting a tree root. After repairing the reel and bedknife, I noticed another issue: the engine would start and run smoothly, but once it warmed up, it would give a loud pop a few seconds after shutoff.

After checking the gaskets and muffler, I moved on to the flywheel key—and there it was. The impact from the root had been enough to shear the key and shift the flywheel ever so slightly.

The engine was still starting and running smoothly because the flywheel was being held in place by the tension of the nut, but that tiny shift was enough to throw the ignition timing off. At shutoff, the delayed timing allowed unburned fuel into the hot muffler, where it ignited and caused the pop.

New flywheel key installed, timing is back where it belongs, and she’s running exactly like she should—smooth, quiet, and with noticeably less heat buildup.
