Baker girl found in box in Pittsburgh basement; her alleged captor, sexual abuser arrested

Pittsburgh, PA — A 13-year-old girl from Baker, Louisiana, was found alive on Thursday, October 30, 2025, concealed in a box covered by a sheet in the basement of a home in Pittsburgh’s Brighton Heights neighborhood, authorities said. Her alleged primary captor, Ki-Shawn Crumity, 26, was arrested at the scene and faces multiple charges.

Marshall was reported missing around October 20 after her mother found evidence on a tablet suggesting she was being groomed online. The Louisiana State Police Special Victims Unit contacted the U.S. Marshals Service on October 24 to assist, believing the teen had traveled with an adult she met on the internet.

Acting on a tip, federal agents and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Special Victims Unit raided a residence on October 30, locating Marshall in the basement. She was taken to a hospital for evaluation; officials said she later told investigators she felt that being at the hospital was the safest she had ever felt.

Authorities said the girl reported that Crumity sexually assaulted her multiple times during the week she was held and that she was given edibles and alcohol.

In a related development, Ronald Smith, 62, was arrested in Columbus, Georgia, on kidnapping charges connected to the case. Investigators said Smith was seen with the girl at a Greyhound bus station earlier in the week.
