FORMER PRESIDENT RODRIGO ROA DUTERTE
(Akong personal na opinion.)
Rodrigo Duterte was a mayor of Davao City for more than 20 years. He changed the city, made it safer for people to live, and became progressive. During his terms, a lot of politicians from the national level would come to Davao for his support every election. You would hear them all praise how he runs the city. It's as if they're bowing down to him just to get his earnest support for their candidacy.
When he decided to run for the presidency in 2016, some politicians who had been in power were against him. Black propaganda was thrown at him. How can we forget that his political ad wasn't released on air? The machinery of the oligarch has worked double, preventing him from winning. The mayor of Davao City won with a big margin from his opponents. The previous administration's allies became critical of him, especially with how he runs the country. They keep throwing mud at him, but he didn't care because he firmly upholds the freedom of speech. During his presidency, if he's really after his political enemies, he could have done something to ruin them, but he chose not to because to him it's a waste of time.
Only during his time did the Filipinos know the magnitude of the drug problem in the country. He made the big companies pay for what they owe to the government. There was transparency. The majority of the Filipinos felt that they became part of the government because the president had given them the chance to. (Remember the FOI and Text to 8888.)
Rodrigo Duterte is the only Philippine president who has consistently high ratings.
After his presidency, Marcos filed his candidacy. He teamed up with Duterte's daughter, Sara, because he knew that he couldn't win. (Wala gani siya kadaug against former vice president Leni.) They won. He is now the Philippine president, and Sara is his vice.
The problem started when the vice president no longer wanted to get involved in Marcos' administration due to incompetence and corruption. She resigned as the secretary of the Department of Education. What happened next? The administration works together with the help of Congress to investigate her use of confidential funds. The Office of the Vice President has been complying with the Commission on Audit, which has the sole authority over misuse of funds. The Congress' investigation seems not successful, so they ended up filing impeachment cases, which could happen anytime soon.
What's happening now is that the former president, Duterte, was arrested by the International Criminal Court for the alleged extrajudicial killings during his War on Drugs. Earlier today, he was brought to The Hague (the Netherlands) for trial. The move seems suspicious because the election is coming, which can affect the vice president's impeachment trial and Duterte's mayoral candidacy in Davao.
