Our Story

We believe that our greatest strength lies in coming together as homeschoolers, not this or that type of homeschooler. We can learn from each other, and achieve the goal of bringing up our children up to be intelligent, compassionate adults who leave a positive impact on society.

When Gail and her husband began homeschooling their twin boys, they discovered that among the plethora of homeschool magazines, there was something missing: A truly inclusive magazine.

  • One that didn’t push one worldview over another.

  • A magazine that wasn’t pro-this religion or anti-that.

  • A homeschooling magazine where the readers and writers are willing to discuss different beliefs and ideas without the animosity that so often seems to accompany them.

  • A magazine in which the only agenda was to help bring homeschoolers together to build a real community.
  • She whined, complained, and wondered why there wasn’t something like that in the world. So her husband, David, being the supportive, awesome guy that he is…told her to stop whining and do something.

    That was in 2014.

Almost 6 years later, and we're still growing. We don't have a huge advertising budget (because we'd rather spend that money making Learning Tangent bigger and better), but we are out there sharing Learning Tangent with new readers every day.

We invite discussion and welcome a variety of worldviews. We probably won’t agree with you 100% of the time, and that’s more than okay...it’s awesome. Our goal is to get people talking, and more importantly...listening to each other.

As Learning Tangent grew and became more stable, we added a print edition and subscriptions. A big risk in a time when publications are ceasing print delivery, but well worth it; after all, no great thing comes without risk! Print subscribers out-number digital 3 to 1, and our most popular subscription is a hybrid of the two. Each issue is stuffed full of articles written by homeschooling moms and dads so that YOU can homeschool more effectively.

We understand that families are starting this new journey for a variety of reasons, and Learning Tangent reflects this reality.

Warriors, concerned about too much on-line time? Know a trade school or community college teacher? What if I showed you how the first will displace BOTH of the latter? Old CCSS Companies are up to more undermining of America. The homeschool community is at risk, as well.
Warriors, DeVos in charge of older teen/adult mental healthcare in education? Sounds like a bad dream, right? Nope, it's Senate Bill 1204.The CCSS Machine grinds on.
Warriors, a whopper sized article, jam packed with more evidence proving the workforce shift in education is not only global, but deeply rooted in US laws. It is #CCSS, #CTE, #CBE, and #STEM in 2019, but what was it in 1948? Find out!! Will this go for homeschools? You bet.
Warriors, if you could beat an educrat at his or her own game would you? This is a true story about a powerful Ed reformer's ruinous efforts in 1 State and about to be spread across the nation. #CTE/ #CBE for every citizen..it is no joke.
    Not ADHD, just...creative...
Warriors, if anyone tells you homeschools cannot be touched by the CCSS Machine, they lie. If anyone suggests the United Nations won't indoctrinate home education, show them these. Then notice Davidson College is included: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/08/29/global-models-at-home/
