Riley Riccardo is my brother in life—not by birth, but by choice.
I've watched this man grow over the last decade. I've seen him at his lowest, and I've seen the man he has become. The work he's done through Chicos Safe Haven Bully Rescue has shaped him into someone I never could have imagined when we first met.
His drive and determination to do a job he doesn't get paid for—and refuses to profit from, even when he only has a few dollars in his bank account—is something I deeply admire.
Over the last few days, the hate and criticism he's received have taken a toll on him, even if he'll never admit it out loud. I know this man on a personal level, and I can tell when his mental health is carrying more weight than he lets people see.
What he was forced to do the other day because of irresponsible owners was heartbreaking. He sacrificed a piece of his own peace of mind to do what was most humane for a suffering puppy. When he says he'll carry that chain with him for the rest of his life, both literally and metaphorically, I believe him.
Wherever you are right now, Riley, I hope you know you're loved. We see what you do. We appreciate the sacrifices you make, and we're grateful for every life you've fought to save.
