wish more people understood THIS about GLP-1s…

Because y’all, this conversation is getting SO much bigger than weight loss.

I was listening to Dr. Tyna Moore and Dr. Mark Hyman talk about GLP-1s this week, and it really got me thinking.

What if we’ve been looking at these medications way too narrowly?

For so long the conversation has basically been:

Take the shot.
Eat less.
Lose weight.

But there’s a much bigger conversation happening around metabolic health.

One thing Dr. Tyna talks about a lot is the minimum effective dose — finding the amount that makes sense for the individual instead of automatically assuming more is better.

And THAT caught my attention.

Because I’m 58. 😂

At this point, I’m not interested in simply making the number on my scale smaller.

I want ENERGY.

I want MUSCLE.

I want to be strong.

I want to protect my metabolic health.

I want to understand blood sugar, inflammation, appetite signaling, hormones, sleep and what’s happening inside my body — not just what I see in the mirror.

And lately I’ve become fascinated with mitochondrial health.

Think of your mitochondria as the little energy factories inside your cells.

So when we start talking about metabolic health, strength training, maintaining muscle, eating enough protein, sleeping well and actually FUELING our bodies…

Suddenly this becomes a completely different conversation.

And here’s the part I REALLY love:

A GLP-1 doesn’t replace the foundation.

Protein still matters.
Nutrition still matters.
Muscle REALLY matters.
Strength training matters.
Sleep matters.
Hormones matter.
And our everyday choices still matter.

A medication can be a tool in the toolbox.

But it isn’t the whole toolbox.

And I think that’s where my own wellness journey has changed the most.

I’m not chasing skinny.

I’m chasing strong, healthy, capable and independent.

Because my question isn’t:

“How little can I weigh?”

My question is:

“How well can this body function for the next 30+ years?”

Now THAT is a healthy-aging conversation I want to have. ❤️

If you’re GLP-1 curious and want to learn more about how these tools may fit into the bigger healthy-aging picture, comment PEP TALK or send me a message.

We’re collecting clues, not criticizing our bodies. 😉❤️

Educational only. GLP-1 medications are prescription treatments and should be discussed with a qualified healthcare professional.

Okay… I’ll admit it. 🙋‍♀️

When I first started hearing about peptides, I kind of lumped them ALL together.

Peptides = peptides. Right?

Nope. 😂

The more I learn, the more I realize how important it is to stop asking, “Do peptides work?” and start asking better questions.

🧬 Which peptide are we talking about?
🔬 What has it actually been studied for?
📚 What does the evidence really show?
🩺 And most importantly — is it appropriate for ME?

Because at this stage of life, I’m not interested in jumping on every shiny new wellness trend that comes across my phone.

But I AM interested in learning.

I want to understand my body better. I want to know what’s changing as I age. And I want to keep asking questions about things that may support the way I want to live for the next 20, 30, 40+ years. ❤️

That’s what this little Peptides 101 series is about.

We’re not chasing miracles.

We’re collecting clues.

And tomorrow we’re getting into one you’ve probably heard me mention before…

👀 NAD+

Before I tell you what I’ve learned — have you heard of NAD+?

YES, NO, or “Jodi, I have no clue what you’re talking about.” 😂👇

Educational only. Peptide evidence, safety and regulatory status vary. Talk with a qualified healthcare professional about what’s appropriate for you.

Okay ladies 45+… anybody else feel like your body changed the rules and forgot to send you the memo? 😂🙋‍♀️

Sleep changes.
Energy changes.
Muscle and recovery change.
Our skin changes.
Our body composition can change.

And suddenly we’re thinking…

“Okayyyy… what else should I be learning about?” 👀

That’s one reason I think so many of us are hearing the word PEPTIDES right now.

But here’s what I’m learning: peptides aren’t one magical thing. Different peptides have different functions, different research behind them, and they definitely aren’t a replacement for the basics.

I’m not interested in chasing every wellness trend that pops up on my phone. 😂

I AM interested in learning more about my body, asking better questions, and sharing what I’m learning along the way.

Because around here…

❤️ We’re collecting clues, not criticizing our bodies.

DAY 2 of Peptides 101 🧬

Tomorrow we’re answering:
👉 Are all peptides the same?

What do YOU want to know about peptides? Drop your question below — even if you think it’s silly. Chances are somebody else is wondering the exact same thing. 👇

If you’re taking a GLP-1, protein needs to stay on your radar. 👀💪

GLP-1s can decrease your appetite—which can make it surprisingly easy to eat too little protein along with fewer calories.

Why does that matter? Because during weight loss, the goal isn’t just to lose pounds. We want to protect as much lean muscle as possible, especially as we get older.

A common starting target is around 1.2–1.6 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day for many adults actively losing weight—but your ideal amount depends on your size, activity level, age, kidney health, and medical needs.

A few tips:
🥚 Prioritize protein at each meal
🥩 Eat your protein first when your appetite is small
💪 Add resistance training to help preserve muscle
🥛 Use an easy protein option when a full meal feels like too much

Remember: the number on the scale isn’t the only thing we’re protecting. We’re protecting our strength, muscle and independence.

Are you getting enough protein—or are you realizing you might not be? 👇

Educational only. Talk with your healthcare provider or dietitian about the right protein target for you.

At 58, that’s where I am.

I move my body. I pay attention to what I eat. I protect my faith and my mindset. And I’ve become much more curious about what’s happening inside our bodies as we age.

One thing I’ve personally incorporated into my wellness routine, with medical guidance, is NAD+.

NAD+ is a coenzyme our cells use in important processes, including energy metabolism. It’s also an area getting a LOT of attention in healthy-aging research.

Personally, one of the biggest differences I’ve noticed is my energy. That’s my experience—not a guarantee, treatment claim or promise that NAD+ will do the same for someone else.

And no, I don’t believe there’s one supplement, injection or “anti-aging hack” that’s going to do the work for us. 😉

I’m interested in the bigger picture:
✨ Movement
✨ Strength
✨ Nutrition
✨ Sleep
✨ Faith
✨ And learning about emerging tools that may support healthy aging

Because I’m not trying to be 28 again.

I want to be strong, energetic and fully living at 58—and for a whole lot of years after that. ❤️

Have you been curious about NAD+? Drop NAD below and I’ll make a simple post explaining what it is, what the research actually says, and what we still DON’T know.

Think takeout-style sticky meatballs, but an easy Sunday-night version.

⏱ Prep: 10 minutes
⏱ Cook: about 10 minutes
🍽 Serves: 4–6

You’ll need

For the meatballs

* 1½ lbs lean ground turkey
* 1 egg
* ½ cup whole-wheat or regular breadcrumbs
* 2 green onions, finely chopped
* ½ tsp garlic powder
* ½ tsp ground ginger
* Salt & pepper

For that sticky sauce

* ⅓ cup low-sodium soy sauce or coconut aminos
* ⅓ cup honey
* 3 cloves garlic, minced
* 1 tsp fresh grated ginger—or ½ tsp ground
* 1 tbsp rice vinegar
* ½ cup water
* Optional: 1–2 tsp sriracha for a little kick 🌶️

To thicken: 1 tbsp cornstarch + 1 tbsp cold water.

Instant Pot time

Mix the meatball ingredients and roll into roughly 1½-inch balls.

Pour the sauce ingredients and water into the Instant Pot and stir. Place the meatballs into the sauce in layers—you don’t need to brown them first.

Cook on HIGH pressure for 7 minutes, then allow a 5-minute natural release before releasing the remaining pressure. Check that the centers of the turkey meatballs reach 165°F.

Remove the meatballs. Turn the Instant Pot to Sauté, stir in your cornstarch slurry and let that gorgeous sauce thicken for a minute or two. Toss the meatballs back in.
