✨ Today marks 6 YEARS in business for me and Empire Media Solutions! ✨

If you’ve had the chance to hear my story, you know that as recently as 2019, Kourtney never thought she would own a company. Honestly, she didn’t even want to. 😂

But 2026 Kourtney? She can’t imagine doing anything else.

So in honor of 6 years, I wanted to share 6 lessons I’ve learned along the way. Don’t worry, I’ve learned plenty more, but these are the ones that feel the most important to share today.

1️⃣ Don’t be afraid to DIY-it until you make it.

And even when you “make it,” it might still look like DIY-ing it and figuring things out as you go. There is great power and joy in that.

2️⃣ Entrepreneurship is HARD.

It requires a special kind of person. Someone with grit, persistence, a fair bit of stubbornness, and just enough short-term memory loss to forget how hard yesterday was so you can keep going today. 😂

3️⃣ Learn how to take care of yourself so you can actually take care of your clients.

And your family, friends, pets, chores, inbox, laundry pile, and everything else life throws at you.

Good self-care is vital, but it looks different for everyone. If yours is smoking a cigar, going for a run, meditating, dancing in your kitchen, or taking a quiet moment to yourself, do you, boo. Protect what helps you show up better.

4️⃣ Find your tribe.

Find a community of like-minded professionals who get it. People who understand the pains, the gains, the joys, the sleepless nights, the wins, and the moments when you wonder what on earth you signed up for.

Over the years, my tribe has included BNI Central Maryland, Millionaire Makers, Frederick County Building Industry Association, Kimberly Mogard, Serena Kerr, Katie Hanna, CB, Rita Powell, PMP, PMI-CPMAI, plus countless business colleagues, friends, and family.

Thank you for helping me grow personally and professionally. 🫶

5️⃣ Do what you love, and don’t be afraid to change things up.

The beauty of creating your own job is that you get to shape it. You get to decide who you work with, what services you provide, what goals you chase, what schedule you build, and what version of success actually feels right to you.

It is still WORK, but you are the boss. Or, let’s be honest… the . 💅

6️⃣ You can do more than you ever thought you could.

Don’t let imposter syndrome, fear of competition, or the lie that you’re “not good enough” stop you.

This journey has changed me. It has stretched me, challenged me, humbled me, and grown me personally and professionally in ways I never dreamed of.

And I wouldn’t change it.

Most days. 🤣
