During my time in the Marine Corps, I really neglected my health.
I didn’t want to be put on light duty. I wanted to train. I wanted to push through.
And now, I’m paying the price.
These days, I’m at VA appointments twice a week. And while I’m grateful for the support I have now, I can’t help but wish I had the voice back then to say “I’m not okay” without the fear of reprimand or being seen as weak.
I know I’m not alone in this. So many of us were taught to push through pain and stay silent.
If you’re in that space now or were once please know this:
needing help doesn’t take away from your service. Taking care of yourself is not a failure.
Healing looks different than training, but it’s still strength.
