🌊🐚 Exploring the Magic of La Jolla Tide Pools 🦀✨

There’s something truly special about stepping onto the rugged shoreline of La Jolla and discovering a miniature world tucked between the rocks. During low tide, these tide pools transform into vibrant pockets of marine life—each one a little window into the ocean’s secrets.

As we wandered along the coast, we came face to face with sea anemones swaying gently in the current, crabs scuttling for cover, and colorful shells nestled between stones like hidden treasure. The entire coastline felt alive with movement and color—reminding me how much wonder exists just beneath the surface.

If you're ever in San Diego, plan your visit during a negative low tide (especially in fall or winter) and wear sturdy shoes. These tide pools are fragile ecosystems, so remember to tread lightly and leave everything just as you found it.

Have you ever explored a tide pool? What’s the coolest thing you've spotted? Share your experience below! 👇

Perched high above the sparkling La Jolla coast you will find Birch Aquarium at Scripps this incredible aquarium isn't just beautiful—it's powered by science. As the public outreach center for Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Birch Aquarium brings ocean research to life in the most immersive way!

Highlights from our visit: • The brand-new Living Seas Gallery is STUNNING—giant Pacific octopus, colorful coral reefs
• We met the cutest colony of Little Blue Penguins (yes, the smallest penguins in the world!) and learned all about their care and conservation.
• The Seadragons & Seahorses exhibit felt like stepping into an underwater fairytale.
• And the Tide Pool Plaza? Pure magic—touching sea stars and sea urchins with the Pacific Ocean as our backdrop? Yes, please!

This place is perfect for families, ocean lovers, and anyone who wants to be inspired by the natural world. Birch Aquarium was even named one of the top aquariums in the U.S.—and now we know why.

📸 Sharing a few moments that made me stop, stare, and smile.
If you’ve ever been, what was your favorite part?
And if you haven’t yet—would you go?

What an amazing time in San Diego!
We arrived Saturday night, picked up our badges and explored the Gaslamp District and got dinner.

Sunday was an all day Comic-Con International day. Jam packed but lots of fun seeing it all for the first time, unfortunately one of my live streams was deleted cause YouTube doesnt know the difference between a prop and real and they claim I violated community guidelines. I can find stormtroopers is thousands of videos but they chose to delete mine. The other live stream is still hanging out on my YouTube page, 4.5 hours of Exhibit hall madness!

Monday was a day of family time.
We started out with breakfast at The Cottage La Jolla and had the most delicious breakfast and amazing service. Then it was off to Birch Aquarium at Scripps Wandering and taking in all the sea life.

After that we headed down to the La Jolla Tide Pools for some sea critters exploration of our own.

We made our way down to Mission Beach, Belmont Park and capped the night of meeting up with my brother for a spectacular dinner at Craft & Commerce .

We then walked around San Diego for a bit taking in the sights and grabbing a little birthday treat from Salt and Straw

Today we hit the road back to Phoenix and the girls fly home Wed morning.

Photos to come

🎉 Today’s a special one — it’s my birthday! 🥳
Each year I’m reminded how grateful I am for the little joys: new adventures, unexpected magic, and all of you who support Jason’s Journeys.

If you’ve enjoyed the stories, photos, or videos I share and want to say happy birthday in a fun way, you can now do so by “buying me a coffee” ☕ — or a churro, or a Dole Whip (let’s be real 😄).

No pressure at all — your likes, comments, and kind messages are already the best gift. But if you feel like sending a little birthday boost, here’s the link:

🗓 This Day in Disney History – July 29th 🎬✨

1928 – Walt Disney files a copyright for “Steamboat Willie,” the first Mickey Mouse cartoon to be released publicly. Though Plane Crazy and The Gallopin’ Gaucho were created earlier, Steamboat Willie was the first to include synchronized sound — making this filing a landmark moment in animation and copyright history.

1949 – Disney releases The Legend of Johnny Appleseed as part of the package film Melody Time. Narrated by Dennis Day with music by the Andrews Sisters, this short blended folklore, religious undertones, and stylized animation. It later became a staple in school reels and educational programming.

1978 – 🎂 Jason Schadewalt is born! On this day, a future Disney history storyteller, theme park adventurer, and creator of Jason’s Journeys joins the world. Jason’s love for Disney would go on to inspire thousands through photography, video, and heartfelt storytelling — keeping the magic alive for generations of dreamers.

1999 – Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith officially opens to the public at Disney-MGM Studios (now Hollywood Studios) at Walt Disney World. Featuring high-speed launches and an onboard soundtrack, it quickly becomes a guest favorite and one of the first major indoor Disney thrill coasters.

2011 – The Magic, The Memories, and You! nighttime projection show officially debuts on Cinderella Castle at Walt Disney World. The show used guest photos taken throughout the day and mapped them onto the castle with animation and music, setting the stage for future projection-based shows like Happily Ever After.

What Disney ride, show, or moment made you feel like a kid again — no matter your age?

🗓 This Day in Disney History – July 28th 🎬✨

1934 – Mickey’s Steam Roller premieres in theaters. In this short, Mickey plays a street roller driver while a runaway steamroller causes havoc after being commandeered by mischievous children — including Morty and Ferdie Fieldmouse. The cartoon is remembered for its dynamic action and use of scale and depth in animation.

1950 – Hold That Pose is released, marking the first appearance of Humphrey the Bear, who would go on to become a fan-favorite side character in several Goofy and Donald Duck shorts. In this debut, Goofy plays an amateur photographer attempting to snap wildlife photos — with hilarious results.

1954 – Walt Disney personally announces the creation of a new television show titled Disneyland, to be produced for ABC. This announcement not only launched Walt's entry into TV but also became a major funding source for Disneyland Park’s construction. The show would premiere later that year and play a key role in the success of both the studio and the park.

1995 – A Goofy Movie is released on home video. Although it had a modest theatrical run, the VHS release solidified its cult classic status — particularly among millennials who connected with its music, father-son themes, and heartfelt storytelling. “Eye to Eye” and “Stand Out” became iconic Disney tunes of the 90s.

2006 – At Disney’s California Adventure, Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! begins soft openings for Cast Members. The ride replaced the infamous Superstar Limo and featured upgraded dark ride technology, detailed sets, and animated figures — marking a major improvement in storytelling and fan reception.

If you could ride any Disney attraction before it opened to the public, which one would you pick?

4.5 hour Comic-Con livestream.

So the livestream wasn't bad, I can definitely do livestreams but I fully understand the need for moderators in the chat.

I'm not sold on the Vertical livestreams but since I am in this YouTube Vertical Livestream Bootcamp it is sorta like homework. I need to do 3 vertical streams to qualify for a contest they are holding for the bootcamp participants.

To me it seems pushing livestream into the shorts doesn't seem to keep retention as the people in the shorts are scrolling 30-60 second video's. I really dont think the change they made to 3 min shorts achieves much for retention.

What are your thoughts? Do you watch vertical or horizontal livestream. Do you think embedding vertical livestreams in the shorts feed is counteractive?

Here is one from the Comic-Con International background. Such a fun time, so much stuff amd so many people!
