A total lunar eclipse, often referred to as a "Blood Moon," is set to occur on the night of March 13 into the early hours of March 14, 2025. During this event, the Earth will align directly between the Sun and the Moon, casting a shadow that gives the Moon a reddish hue. This phenomenon is safe to observe without special equipment, though binoculars or a telescope can enhance the viewing experience.

The eclipse will be visible across North America.
The sequence of the eclipse is as follows:

Penumbral Eclipse Begins: 11:57 p.m. MST on March 13

Partial Eclipse Begins: 1:09 a.m. MST on March 14

Totality (Moon Appears Red): 2:26 a.m. to 3:31 a.m. MST

Partial Eclipse Ends: 4:47 a.m. MST

Penumbral Eclipse Ends: 6:00 a.m. MST

For optimal viewing, it's recommended to find a location with clear skies and minimal light pollution. The next total lunar eclipse visible from North America is expected on March 3, 2026.

Adventure awaits, and this time, we took our rockhounding skills to Lone Star Mine in Benson, Arizona, one of the only pay-to-dig fluorite locations in the U.S.! We went on a self-guided mining adventure and uncovered some incredible fluorite specimens—the colors and formations were unreal!

Experiment #1 Rock tumbler.

This is 1 day in course grit. I've switched to stage 2 and will check again tomorrow.

Experiment 2&3 are soaking in vinegar water and CLR. Neither seem to be doing much.

After returning from Lone Star mine late last night I filled my bucket with soap water to soak overnight.
Today I'll scrub the finds and show off my discovery!
