In spring I conveniently forgot that I garden in Texas.

Texas gardeners… how are we holding up?

I just need everyone to hang on for a few more weeks. 😬🤞💖

I didn’t exactly set out to build a garden around a wild rabbit… but Henrietta had other plans.

So now there are water bowls on the ground, tiny umbrellas in the garden beds, flowers chosen with rabbits in mind, and wildlife habitat disguised as decor.

It may not be everyone’s idea of a perfectly manicured garden, but I think I prefer it this way. A little kooky, a little imperfect, and shared with whoever decides to show up.

What’s something you do in your garden that might seem a little unusual to everyone else? Show me a pic in the comments.

A tiny interruption from your internet bestie to remind you:

Whatever your anxiety is trying to convince you of today… you don’t have to solve it all right now.

Send this to someone who needs to just breathe and CHILL!

A little birdbath refresh for the backyard, with one important exception: I’ll always keeping a bowl down at ground level too.

The birds may love their new setup, but the rabbits, squirrels, and other little ground visitors need a reliable place to hydrate too. I’ve noticed that once wildlife gets comfortable with a water source, they tend to keep coming back to it, so I didn’t want to suddenly take theirs away while introducing something new.

And if this were my own home instead of a rental? I would absolutely build them a tiny wildlife pond and fully commit to becoming the neighborhood water department.

For now, we’re working with what we have — a few different water stations, a little patience, and plenty of room for everyone.

The new birdbath also came with a copper disc designed to help slow algae growth between cleanings, which I’m very curious to see in action.

Maybe we weren’t meant to optimize every single minute of our lives. Just 6 short years ago my main focus was becoming a by any means.

Then I planted a garden.

Maybe success was never supposed to look like being exhausted, overwhelmed and constantly chasing the next thing.

A lot of us started wanting something different during/after the pandemic. More than growing tomatoes and baking sourdough, it became about the time we got to spend together.

To eat dinner at home.

To teach the kids in our lives the things our grandparents taught us.

To get to know our neighbors.

To sit in the garden a little longer.

To make an ordinary Tuesday feel like a life worth living.

Not because we’re going backwards.

Because maybe we finally figured out what moving forward actually looks like.

A slower life. A softer life. A life we’re actually present for.

If that’s the kind of life you’re building too, you’ll probably like it here.
