V Records proudly announces the release of “Playgirl of the Western World” by Cruel Billie!

A richly layered and genre-spanning record, "Playgirl of the Western World" moves between psychedelic pop, disco-funk, western-tinged country, retro rock, and beyond. Produced by Chris Dixie Darley (Father John Misty), the album leans into a distinct vintage aesthetic, brought to life through a wide palette of analog instrumentation and warm, textured production.

Cruel Billie’s songwriting is both distinctive and deeply expressive, carried by vocals that feel as intimate as they are commanding. There’s a clear sense of identity and presence throughout as she tells her stories.

The album opens with “Bird on a Wire,” the lead single that has steadily built momentum since its release last year. Elsewhere, “Run ’Til Ruin” taps into an old western energy, while “Kerosene” drives forward with urgency and a familiar pulse. Tracks like “Temperament Sanguine” and “Gloom Punch” reveal a more introspective side, adding depth to the album's emotional range.

Recorded in full at Voyager Studios, the project also marks the first lead engineering credit for V Records founder Derek Burroughs. The result is a cohesive, immersive listen that rewards repeat plays and reflects a clear attention to detail from performance through production.

Here's a look at the super collectible handmade Wax Mage edition of "Bad Bodega 1" from Bad Bodega! Aptly named the "Bodega Burst", each Wax Mage is bursting at the seams with a combo of shredded items that you would commonly grab at your local bodega - scratch-offs, chips bag, match books, and candy wrappers. These items are literally pressed INSIDE the record, yet it still plays music. Incredible! The magicians of the Wax Mage crew have done it again.

Every Wax Mage copy is unique, and selections of items pressed into the record vary between each copy. Please be aware, there is a limited amount of inventory available for online sales, and the handmade records could sell out quickly. And don't forget, our virtual bodega opens its doors this Saturday at 11am PST, SHARP!

We’re proud to present our next 2026 vinyl release: "Bad Bodega 1" by Bad Bodega!

Originally released nearly a year ago, "Bad Bodega 1" is the band’s debut full-length LP, recorded entirely at Voyager Studios in Orange County, CA.

The album features eight tracks written at different stages of the band’s growth. Keeping things strictly to a three-piece power trio, Bad Bodega moves through multiple shades of rock with a wide emotional range, grounded in a late ’90s / early 2000s feel. Each member has room to shine and showcase their individual talents, without detracting from the focus and intent of the songs.

Across the record, there’s a clear undercurrent of letting go of what no longer fits, questioning the road you’re on, and finding the strength to step into something new. It spends time looking inward, but it never loses its bite.

“Roam” opens the record with driving power chords, a memorable chorus, and a quick instrumental break that hints at a bit of Tom Petty influence. “Pouring Rain” pushes the energy forward with a tight palm-muted pre-chorus and a uniquely distorted guitar solo. “Wasted Time” shifts into something deeper and more expressive, pulling from a vintage rock feel, while “Oh Brother” closes Side A with extensive soul-searching that allows the bridge to build with real intensity.

Side B begins with “Chains,” bringing in a darker tone through drop-D guitar and themes of breaking free from internal weight. “Defenses” keeps that heavier tone, reinforcing the album's motif of release and forward momentum. “The Call” slows things down into a reflective rock ballad centered on self-examination and direction. The final track, “Drifting,” blends vintage textures reminiscent of The Eagles and Pink Floyd with a modern edge, closing the album on a note that feels both open-ended and hopeful.

"Bad Bodega 1" is now streaming on all major platforms. Vinyl drops Saturday, February 21 at VRecordsUSA.com, including limited handmade variants. More details will follow in the upcoming days.

We would like to introduce Doctor Nick & The Family Dog as our newest artist to join the V Records lineup!

has been making music undercover as "Yolanda Band" while working as an ER doctor within the storied halls of LA County Hospital. Between his musical works from this period finding their way into a movie here and a TV show there, and the support of his local deep East LA music community and friends/collaborators with wizardly musical pedigrees (Chris “Dixie” Darley, Todd Dahlhoff, Hand Habits), Dr. Nick has developed something akin to a cult following: a musician’s musician, while to audiences he remains an outsider artist, conjuring oddly textured, fuzzed-out productions in the odd hours from his ramshackle basement studio.

His songs, swinging with strange ease across the decades, carry a Laurel Canyon–meets–rural Oregon lilt to a Kinks-meets-Clinic rumble, and his vocal sound is a fragile croon recalling Chet Baker and Rob Argent.

Recently he’s lent himself to producing and recording other artists such as the WV-meets-LA country act Richwine and sapphic dream-pop darling Zelma Stone, among others. “Doctor Nick” to his friends, now records under the epithet with his Family Dog Band, an act comprised of musician friends borrowed from their tour schedules and his very own family. Dr. Nick is also one half of surrealist folk duo .wav with Zach Tillman.

To anyone who’s looking, he can be found in his studio looking out on the dusty hillside on Walnut Canyon, his two little boys digging up clay, coyote bones, and agate in the hazy East LA sunset.

Doctor Nick just released the album "Cafe Ram Dass" this January, and is available to check out on major streaming platforms. We're over the moon to announce that this album will be available on vinyl in the upcoming months from V Records!
