“Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
Psalm 37:4

There is a depth to this verse that we can miss if we read it too quickly.

God is not promising to give us everything we want simply because we believe in Him. He is inviting us into something far greater… “Delight in Me until what you desire begins to look like what I desire.”

The closer we draw to God, the more He reshapes the heart.

Some desires will deepen.
Some will disappear.
Some will have to wait.
And some will be replaced by something we never knew to ask for.

We often focus on the second half of the verse, “He will give you the desires of your heart,” while God is calling us to live in the first:

“Delight yourself in the Lord.”

Find your joy in Him before the answer comes.
Trust Him when the door opens and when it stays closed.
Love Him for who He is, not merely for what He can give.

Because when God becomes the treasure of your heart, you begin to discover something extraordinary. The greatest desire He fulfills is not always the thing you were asking for. Sometimes, it is the heart He creates in you while you are waiting.

Dwell on this today:

If God gave you nothing else, would He still be enough?

The Bible says you were loved by God before the foundation of the world. Which means before He said, “Let there be…,” He said “You are loved.”
Let that sink in.

Does anxiety mean your faith isn’t strong enough?

No.

Anxiety is not proof that you’ve failed God or that your faith is weak. Scripture is filled with faithful men and women who wrestled with fear, grief, and deep distress, yet they continued to trust the Lord.

Some may ask, “But doesn’t the Bible say, “Be anxious for nothing?” It does. Paul writes, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” (Philippians 4:6) Notice what he doesn’t say. He doesn’t tell us to pretend anxiety doesn’t exist. He tells us where to take it.

God’s answer to anxiety isn’t denial, it’s dependence.

The enemy loves to use anxious moments to whisper lies about your identity, God’s love, and your future. But lies lose their power when they’re brought into the light of God’s truth. When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He answered Satan with Scripture. He didn’t respond with feelings or opinions. He responded with the Word of God.

That’s how we fight, too.

When anxious thoughts come, bring them to God in prayer, measure them against His Word, and trust what He has said more than what your fears are saying.

God says you are loved.
God says there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ.
God says He will never leave you nor forsake you.

God promises His peace will guard the hearts and minds of those who bring everything to Him in prayer. Mental and spiritual battles are real, but they do not have the final word. Jesus does.

Keep praying.
Keep reading His Word.
Keep trusting His promises.

The battle may be in your mind, but the truth of God is stronger than every lie the enemy whispers.

In our study on the armor of God Sunday night, we learned how to "fasten on the belt of truth."

Jesus says in John 8:31-32, "If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

We fasten on the belt of truth by abiding in God's Word. Home is where we abide. When we make God's Word our home, we dwell in it, abide in it. As we fill our minds and our hearts with God's Word, it comes out in our lives.

Paul declares in Philippians 1:21, “For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”

How can we as believers make Paul’s motto for life our own? In the surrounding context of that verse we see that Paul:
1. Lived with reliance on Christ, vv18-19.
2. Lived in allegiance to Christ, vv20-21.
3. Lived as Christ to others, vv22-24.
4. Lived that others may glory in Christ, vv25-26.

Let’s pursue this kind of living and join Paul in saying - for me. to live. is Christ!

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. Psalm 8.1

Take a moment and look around you today. God’s glory is everywhere and it’s breathtaking!

Paul gives thanks for gospel partnership, gospel hope, and gospel company in the opening verses of Philippians. Thanksgiving is a great way to begin a day, a prayer, or a conversation. It’s hard to go the wrong direction when you start with giving thanks. It not only sets the tone, it sets the heart.

One of many life lessons from Philippians:
Sometimes God places us in less than desirable circumstances in order to open gospel opportunities that otherwise would have remained closed! The gospel advances throughout the Roman imperial guard BECAUSE Paul is in prison. (1:12-13)
When we find ourselves in undesirable places, look for gospel doors to open!
