As wedding season gets into its full stride this month, people ask me for advice on writing wedding toasts. People figure since Ive filmed and edited so many wedding that I would be a good source of advice. So here are a few things Ive learned.
1. It may seem like a fun idea to tell jokes and poke a little fun at the couple , but I would stay away from that. A little joke as an initial ice breaker is fine but stay away from making it a standup routine.
2. Say what you know and let t it go.. Don't worry about writing the most beautiful sonnet. Express how you feel and keep it simple. Less is usually more.
3. Steal.. well borrow.. There is nothing wrong with reading through works of other great people and borrowing their words to express your feelings. Be sure to state were the words originated from.
