Edit: I don't know what is "good" or "correct". I don't want to complain if this is proper. It just doesn't seem right to me.

Contractor built this gate. It looked like they had cut the 2x4 rails short and then used a short block (first three pictures). When I checked it out, the blocks had already split and broken. I took pictures and asked if it could be fixed. Last four pictures is their "fix". Still blocks. The lags are going through the actual rail though, so that's better.

My house was built in 1926 and during a bathroom remodel the contractors relocated one of the original doors/frames. They pretty badly damaged the frame in the process and then reinstalled it as-is. I’ve since fired them (for a myriad of issues like this)

I’d really like to save the original woodwork if possible, but I know it has lead paint, so I’m hesitant to start sanding/stripping it myself. What would you do here — repair and encapsulate, strip it professionally, or replace the damaged pieces?

I’m prepping the plywood ceiling of my shed to paint with a roller.
There are about 60 of these nails poking through from roof.
1-Am I okay to trim them without damaging the roof integrity?
2-Are there ratcheting cutter that could do the job?
(I got a pair of angled pliers, but could barely get through the thinner nails, much less the bigger ones).

I had to go through the stud to offset it further from the toilet that was going to interfere. I have some concern of the angle of the line / fittings. I cut out below the old elbow on the right and replaced it from elbow all the way through the valve. I did not properly measure out the height and depth of the stud hole, and this is the result. Is this going to cause an issue down the line ? It is currently pressurized with no visible issues

DIY-er trying to finish my basement. Upper section of stairwell drywall hung over the bottom section by a good bit so I thought if I put 3/8s in, it’ll reduce the gap and also could install flush with the framing behind the picture. What are my finishing options here? Put a piece of quarter round or could I attempt to float it out towards the ceiling? First time doing drywall so I’m kinda figuring it out as I go, and yes, I’ve been binging Vancouver Carpenter.
