It is with regret we write to inform you that Effective June 2: Gaston Recycles will no longer pick up recycling. For those who have prepaid for services, we plan to continue picking up until your credits are settled.
We established Gaston Recycles in October of 2020 when the City of Gastonia stopped single stream curbside recycling pickup, due to contamination and cost. Since then, we have served over 50 households and some businesses in picking up their recycling, carefully ensuring it makes it to the correct destination, and hoping for it to find new life. Together, with our customers and participating facilities, we have kept tons of waste out of the landfill.
We have put a great deal of time, effort and resources into Gaston Recycles. It is with great difficulty that we announce the close of our business at this time, simply because it is no longer sustainable for us to be able to operate.
I’ll take this chance to remind you that Gaston County offers sites for taking separated recycling if you weren’t already aware. You can find that information on their website.
We thank our families, customers and community for all of the support over the course of our operation. We haven’t lost hope making a difference for our environment and living in a way that is sustainable. We won’t give up on continuing to find ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. We hope you will do the same. We look forward to seeing ways other people in our community and our world step up to make a difference as well.
