Motivation can be broken down into three key components:
* Activation: The decision to initiate a behavior. For instance, deciding to enroll in a college course.
* Persistence: The continued effort toward a goal even when obstacles are present. This would be continuing to study for that course even when it's difficult.
* Intensity: The concentration and vigor that goes into pursuing a goal. This is the difference between someone who puts in the bare minimum and someone who works diligently and with passion.
