Root to Jar

Root to Jar Here to teach the dying art of preserving your own food from root to jar. To me, canning is a "dying art" that needs to be brought back to the modern kitchen.

Raised in Central Maryland and now calling Geneva, NY home, I wear many hats: Wife, Mother, and Family Nurse Practitioner. In the chaotic world of medicine and parenting, I find my peace in the garden and over a steaming canner. Some of my favorite memories are from my grandmother’s back porch—nipping green beans and listening for the weight to jiggle on her pressure canner. The

Checked in on the garden this evening looking for new growth and peace and quiet. Today was a DAY for sure. We can get into that another time, but I found a friend while I was there! Hopefully this week green beans and cucumbers can get in the ground between lacrosse games and hockey gamesšŸ˜‚

I didn’t expect to find my inspiration at a gas station this morning, but here we are. I was grabbing my morning Red Bull (don’t judge!), and when I told the cashier, ā€œIt’s only Tuesday,ā€ she just smiled and said, ā€œAt least it’s not Monday.ā€
Those few words were exactly the dose of optimism I needed today. Cheers to getting through the rest of the week! 🌿✨

Thank goodness it’s Friday. This afternoon I will stop at the greenhouse for tomatoes, peppers, and green bean seeds. The tomatoes and peppers are going in the ground today, while the cucumbers and beans will wait for a bit more warmth—but it’s all coming together nicely!
