Mesoscale Discussion 1772:
Storms are developing in eastern Wyoming and northern Colorado due to eroding diurnal inhibition along the mountains. Continued heating is expected to weaken remaining inhibition across the High Plains. A modest mid-level jet provides sufficient shear for transient supercells, with some areas favoring left-moving supercells. These storms may produce large hail (up to 1.25 inches) due to long hodographs, steep lapse rates, and low freezing levels, with the hail risk diminishing southward as shear weakens. Storms may cluster later, potentially causing severe wind gusts (up to 60 mph) due to a dry boundary layer and steep low-level lapse rates. The severe weather threat is expected to be sparse, so a watch is unlikely (20% chance).
