My target for today would be northwestern Nebraska into the southwestern South Dakota region. As the low pressure system curls back north off the pine ridge area storms feeding off the hills will intensify but will be high based. Topography in that region makes or breaks storms. Nice pocket of cape is sitting southeast of Hill City South Dakota currently. Storm initiation seems to be ongoing.

I am sitting today out. Currently watching tropical storm Cristobal. If this targets the United States and intensifies I will look to deploy in its path!

Holy sh♧t!

We were roasting today! Numerous locations across SE Wyoming and the Nebraska Panhandle either tied or broke their record high temperature for the day. Chadron was the winner and hit 109°F this afternoon.

New record high for July 26th of 103F set today at Denver International Airport.

We expect similar records to be confirmed across the Front Range for today, pending the final numbers.

It was a record heat day across portions of the region today. North Platte set a new record high today, with Imperial tying the record high. Both records were previously set in 1936.

Today's WX history. 39 years ago the most intense tornado in Wyoming history and one of the most unusual ever surveyed struck deep within the heart of the Teton and Yellowstone wildernesses. Shattering the myth that no violent tornado could occur deep within the Rocky Mountains. The massive 1.5 mile wide funnel would annihilate millions of trees along a 24 mile path and would even traverse the continental divide itself.
