Sometimes, the ones who change our lives are the ones we never knew we were looking for.
In Paws on the Plains, we visit the City of Gillette Animal Shelter and share the story of what can happen when an animal gets a second chance and someone chooses to open their heart.
For Dylan, that second chance was Dirk.
Adopted in January 2025, Dirk quickly became more than a dog. He became a companion for Wyoming days, a passenger on backroads, a partner for adventures and a piece of home.
Their story is a reminder that behind every kennel door is a life waiting to be known. A personality waiting to come out. A loyal friend waiting for someone to choose them.
The City of Gillette Animal Shelter works every day to give those animals that chance.
And sometimes, in giving an animal a home, we find that they give us something back that we didn't even know we needed.
