Ripple and Franklin Templeton are not randomly adjacent. They are converging around the same future: regulated assets, tokenized yield, institutional custody, stablecoin settlement, active crypto management, and always-on global liquidity.
Franklin Crypto is another signal that the professional money world is no longer asking whether digital assets matter. It is organizing itself to manage them.
Franklin Templeton has now closed its 250 Digital acquisition and formally launched Franklin Crypto, led by Christopher Perkins, Seth Ginns, and Tony Pecore, reporting to Sandy Kaul. Its purpose is explicit: active institutional crypto strategies with Franklin’s global distribution.
The alignment is not fantasy; it is already public market structure. launched XRPZ, a regulated XRP ETF on Arca, describing XRP as a digital asset for real-time, low-cost cross-border payments. Franklin, , and also partnered around tokenized money market funds, RLUSD, and sgBENJI, with Franklin issuing sgBENJI on the XRP Ledger.
Ripple, meanwhile, has built the institutional plumbing: custody through Metaco/Ripple Custody, prime brokerage through Hidden Road/Ripple Prime, payments, stablecoin rails through RLUSD, and the XRP Ledger as settlement infrastructure. Ripple closed Hidden Road and became the first crypto company to own and operate a global multi-asset prime broker. Ripple acquired Metaco to expand institutional custody and tokenization capabilities.
