SNOW/RAIN/ICE STORM TONIGHT AND TOMORROW: Snowfall will fall for most of Maine (not including southern/coastal parts). 5-8 inches expected in northern Maine with 3-5 inches surrounding it.

Ice accumulations up to 0.5" are expected for most of New Hampshire and parts of Vermont. Isolated amounts over 0.5" possible. This will be a major event and power outages are likely in this scenario. This will affect the commute tomorrow morning as well.

The system should move in around midnight and spread during the early AM hours. Most of the region should have precipitation falling or have fallen by sunrise in the morning

Tonight's storm system will dump several inches of snow for southern New England. Western MA and CT should get the most snow. Mainly 5-8 inches should fall in these areas. Isolated 8+ inch amounts are possible as heavy snowfall and timing could play a role.

The snowfall should wrap up by the end of tomorrow morning. Snow should start between 5-8 pm for western CT and MA.

Well these will be my current snowfall predictions. The models are not in agreement with who will get the most snow but I've narrowed it down to just north and east of Portland, Maine. Up to 10 inches of snow may pile up in the area highlighted in pink. Nearby areas should expect between 5 and 8 inches. I may change this if needed tomorrow morning.

The snow should start in southern New England during the morning with Vermont to Maine getting in on the action during the afternoon. The heaviest snow for southern Maine will be during the night and should end by 10am the next morning.

I do expect most of the region to see snowfall, with a mixing between rain and snow in southern New England. Still watching the bullseye scenario for southern Maine, where a slow-moving heavy snow band is expected for that area.

Winter storm watches have been issued for the chance of at least 6 inches of snow for southern Maine. These will likely be upgraded to warnings at some point. I may post my snow totals this afternoon if models agree as well as the timing of the snow.

Watching a storm system for Tuesday afternoon and night. The heaviest snowfall for now looks to be parts of southern Maine near Portland. This is due to a slow moving heavy snow band that may pass over the area. Both the GFS and Euro models currently indicate this. This could change.

Most other areas could see between 1 to 3 inches or 2 to 4 inches of snowfall. This shouldn't be a major system but will watch for any potential changes. I will post my own snow totals either sometime tomorrow or Tuesday morning at the latest.

Tomorrow will be much cooler and drier with high temperatures in the 30s and 20s. Tuesday will be the next round of precipitation.

Update for Friday: The wind gusts coming from this system will be a significant problem. The entire region should expect gusts to 40 mph, with stronger gusts expected for many areas. Much of coastal Maine and Cape Cod Massachusetts should see between 55-65 mph gusts, with isolated 70 mph gusts on the immediate coast in Maine (shown in dark red).

Power outages can be expected along coastal areas with possible/likely chances further inland. Rainfall will be at least an inch for most areas along with snow melt.
