Aroostook County has officially declared their intent to become the 51st state of the United States of America, distancing themselves from the liberal leadership in Augusta.

🌲 Public Declaration of Intent
To Establish the Free and Sovereign State of North Maine
Issued by the People of Aroostook County and Beyond

We, the undersigned, declare our intent to pursue the peaceful and lawful establishment of the 51st state of the United States of America: the Free and Sovereign State of North Maine.

For too long, the rural people of Aroostook County and the greater northern region of Maine have lived under policies, mandates, and tax structures that do not reflect our values, way of life, or priorities. The distance between us and Augusta grows wider by the year—culturally, economically, and spiritually.

We believe the people of this land have the natural and constitutional right to self-govern, to live free of overreach, and to create a society based on voluntary association, liberty, and stewardship of the land.

We envision a State where:

There is no income tax, because labor is not a taxable commodity.

There is no property tax, because land ownership is sacred and not subject to rent.

Local communities govern themselves, with decisions made in town halls, not state houses.

Food, energy, and trade are local, not controlled by distant corporate or bureaucratic interests.

Rights are protected, not permitted—and government answers to the people, not the other way around.

We do not seek conflict or separation for its own sake. We seek freedom by consent, unity through community, and a return to bottom-up governance that honors the dignity of every individual and the power of every town.

We therefore declare our intention to:

Organize a Committee for North Maine Statehood, open to all supporters.

Host local gatherings and town halls to educate, inspire, and listen.

Develop a draft Constitution that reflects our shared values and priorities.

Pursue legal and peaceful avenues to petition the Maine Legislature and the U.S. Congress for recognition as the 51st state.

Let this serve as a call to all those who feel the fire of freedom rising in their hearts. Join us in making history—not just for ourselves, but for future generations who deserve a state built on truth, transparency, and true liberty.
