Everybody online is yelling “be authentic” like it’s the magic answer to everything. 🙄
Cool. But what does that even mean?
Spoiler… it’s not just “be yourself” or “post whatever you feel like.” That’s generic advice.
Authenticity goes way deeper. It’s about knowing who you really are at your core, why you’re here, who you serve, and letting that mission, not money, not likes, not fame, be the driver of everything you share.
Here’s how I check myself before I hit post:
1. Does this reflect my mission?
2. Did this actually happen in my life or business?
3. Does this help my audience or push the vision forward?
4. Is it bringing joy or just tearing someone down?
If I can’t answer yes to at least one of those, guess what? It doesn’t make the cut.
And before anyone says, “But Kaitlyn, I’ve seen you post personal stuff…”
Yep. Because that’s real. That’s part of my story. And honestly, people relate way more to the messy middle than the fake highlight reel.
The biggest compliment I’ve ever gotten? “You’re the exact same person online as you are offline.”
That’s authenticity.
If people meet you in real life and feel like they’ve been catfished, either because your profile pic is from 10 years ago or your energy does not match, you are not being authentic. You are performing.
So here is the challenge: stop throwing the word around like confetti. Get crystal clear on who you are, why you are here, and what you are actually trying to do with your platforms.
When you start posting from that place, your content stops being noise and starts being magnetic.
