I was listening to How I Built This and heard a founder talk about launching a premium peanut butter brand. The feedback she got was simple. You cannot win by looking like the shelf. You win by standing out on it.

I kind of laughed because I catch myself doing that all the time. Scrolling, seeing creators I like, and quietly wanting to copy their whole thing.

Every time I go down that road I end up feeling further from where I want to be. Not closer.

Still figuring it out. But it was a good reminder today.

Honestly, this was one of those weeks where a lot of things clicked at once.

We announced our eighth team member at Launch Kit. I finally stopped overthinking and launched the mastermind I've been sitting on for months. And I walked into a Chamber meeting that has quietly been generating $9K a month for us without a single business card handed out.

Oh, and I showed you the exact ClickUp template that runs our entire YouTube operation behind the scenes.

If any of that sounds interesting, this week's video is worth the watch.

This week you're getting a full look behind the curtain at what it ...

First visit to The Economic Club of Grand Rapids Annual Dinner for Ellen and I. As someone who lives and works downtown, it's awesome to see people here in this community fired-up about building a great place that we get to call home. Seeing two past U.S. Presidents (George W and Clinton) sit down and talk was a great reminder that it's always a great day when you've got projects.

I don't remember where I first heard the upward spiral vs downward spiral analogy, but these three things are my go-to for snapping back to an upward spiral.

1. Make bed
2. 10-min yoga class on Apple Fitness+
3. Cold shower - Wim would be proud.

Don’t be too busy driving to pull over and get gas.
I just spent an entire week doing 1:1, two-hour conversations with my team.

What We Did:
A Full Week. Just for My Team.
- I blocked my entire calendar for the week.
- 2-hour, 1:1 conversations with every team member.
- No distractions. Just focused on the people who make a real difference in our business.

The Mindset Shift:
Don't Run Out of Gas
- You cannot drive forever without stopping.
- Your team needs attention and direction to keep moving forward.
- Slowing down is how you speed up.

The System
We do this every Spring and Fall.
- Two formal check-ins per year.
- Consistent enough to stay connected.
- Structured enough to actually move the needle.

Spring Reviews
How Are We Actually Doing?
- Compare real progress against goals set in January.
- Spot problems before they become patterns.
- Realign before the year slips away from you.

Fall Reviews
Finish Strong. Start Sharp.
- Lock in Q4 priorities as a team.
- Preview what next year is going to look like.
- Walk into January ready, not scrambling.

Life's too short to not enjoy the ride. Have fun making vids.

Currently Reading - Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari.

• So far, this has been fun and interesting to learn about something not business and productivity related.

• Book is the heaviest 464 page book I've ever read. If you have the hardcopy, you'll know what I mean.

• Picked this one up as a recommendation at the end of The Almanack of Naval Ravikant.

All signal, 0 noise. Genuine recommendation, I paid for the book out of curiosity → Recently read Sabri Suby's book Sell Like Crazy. In the first chapter he reminds you directly that the new tech, software, or trend is not going to move the needle. Starting your day focused on Signal, blocking out the Noise - is what separates those who tread water, flooded with notifications, vs those who get stuff done day after day. Brick by brick.
