Through The 3rd Eye

Through The 3rd Eye A Home for Exceptional Michigan Poetry The beginnings of Through the 3rd Eye date back to the small classrooms of Immanuel-St. Mr.

James Lutheran School in Grand Rapids, where Rodney Torreson, former Poet Laureate of Grand Rapids, still teaches. Torreson has always stirred poetry into his English classes and throughout the years he has instilled extraordinary creative writing skills in his students. Our site was developed to assist fledgling writers by exposing them to poetry of high merit, informative articles, and local ev

ents and contests, as well as providing them with an opportunity to publish their work. Our staff believes that a young person's growth as a poet depends, in part, upon the poetry he or she reads, and we work hard to highlight the work of established poets and explore the elements of their style that we believe make their poetry special. By doing this, we hope that young writers may gain rich insights into the world of poetry that will help them as they grow and shape their own poetic voice. We are always seeking poems for publication on Through the 3rd Eye. To submit, you must be 24 years of age or younger, and you must reside in the state of Michigan. Please send submissions to [email protected]

It is our hope that through our website many young people will further their understanding of what a poem can be, find inspiration for their own writing, and grow their love of poetry.

It's finally here! The new 3rd Eye website is up and running, and we have just released our very first issue in this space. Featuring essays and poems from Liz Dalton, Andrew J. Wilt, Jenny Stamate-Carey, and Shawn Michael Moore, this issue tackles the question of what poetry is and why it's important. It also features two outstanding poems from the brilliant young poet Joseph Felkers. Read his work and the rest of the issue at http://www.3rdeyepoetry.com/. Write on!

We, the staff of Through the 3rd Eye, hope to assist fledgling writers in a variety of ways: by publishing poetry of high merit, offering personal responses to submitted poems, and including suggestions for revision on poems not accepted for publication. Because we believe that a young person's grow…

Happy New Year from Through the 3rd Eye! One of our resolutions is to keep this page more stocked with content - so here you are - an in-depth analysis of David Allan Evans' the Carnival, the Life, by Nathaniel Schmidt

America is too large a country to have a national poet. So vast and diverse is the land and its people between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans that it is all but impossible to speak universally for the nation. Frost, no matter how much academia tries to tell us he embodied the common man, was a New…
