As a self-employed creative, I love my job. That's why it's often hard to justify vacations.
But after almost 15 years of ear hustling and feeling the need for a mini-sabbatical, my wife, infant son, and I couldn't pass up the rare opportunity to visit some good friends living in Portugal. And after recently celebrating a 10 year anniversary in 2024, we said book it!
Day by day, we journeyed through little fishing towns, enjoying amazing hikes, soft ocean hugs, and afternoon long conversations over delicious meals with friends we held dear.
It reminded me again and again how invigoratingly necessary true breaks can be when you give yourself permission to take them.
Sure, time off comes with an opportunity cost, but letting my mix-wearied ears rest in the tranquil, slow quiet of the Algarve's pace of life was an opportunity that was absolutely worth it, especially when there's a beautiful wife and amazing friends involved.
Huge thanks to the incredible family, friends, and clients who helped make it happen. Refreshed. Stoked. Glad to be back! 🏄♂️ ☀️ 🇵🇹
