Working on Nexus has taken so long because I'm diving deeper than just "it's haunted". I'm looking at it from every angle and critically thinking about the paranormal as a whole. It seems over the last 10 years or so, there's been a massive increase in activity, more stories, more experiences. I've outlined a working theory, still in progress, as to what I believe is a fascinating explanation for this.
"Are hauntings getting more pronounced? I think so. Why now? Perhaps, morphic resonance. One investigation takes place, and the spirits learn to use the tools we are providing, they learn to influence our emotion and even learn to condense their energies down to resonate more with the human body so we can interpret touch or disembodied voices with our physical senses. Due to collective consciousness, that information is inherited to all spiritual beings whether they are aware of it or not. Then another investigation takes place that calls upon the same energetic patterns as the first, so that makes it easier for communication with spiritual energy. Then a third investigation, making it even quicker and easier, until the pattern is repeated enough times that it becomes habitual. That pattern of communication between spirit and physical has grown stronger and stronger and, again, due to collective consciousness, it's inherited everywhere by all beings/energies alike. This causes an uptick in haunted locations, events such as apparitions and voices happening on their own accord without being asked, or electronic device manipulation without being first asked or told how to use the device. Now why do we seem to predominantly see evidence of older spirits from a previous century in these locations? Unknowingly, we associate the buildings age and events with the types of energy that would potentially reside there. If a building built in 1890 had a death within its walls in 2002, we wouldn't focus as much energy and effort towards the 2002 death because it feels like a lesser part of the history. That's not to say that we couldn't experience that spirit, but it's not a dominant focus. What we focus on grows. So in essence, the experience you expect to receive from a location is the experience you'll actually have. Between the growth of the habit of spirit contact using modern tools and the growth in focus on the paranormal, together I believe create a noticeable increase in activity, leading to more locations popping up with activity, more stories, and the thinning of the veil bringing the physical and spiritual worlds closer together.
