Northern Bard Publications

Northern Bard Publications A book publisher owned and operated by a published author who is tired of the run around. If you're also tired of the run around, let's talk....

Having been discouraged by the small amount of work that other publishers do in order to collect 80% of the cover cost when only doing about 20% of the work, this company was started. We offer a more lucrative contract for the author, because without your talent and inspiration, there wouldn't be the story for us to publish. Please contact us with your ideas. Let our editor have a look and suggest corrections that will make your story stronger. Let our art director create a cover you can be proud to introduce to family and friends. Let our marketing director get your work out as an ebook, a paperback, and use her contacts to get your work released internationally. We want to work with you!

Mission: We are here for the author, not for the publishing company!

Still working on "Fireblossom and the Dream Weaver". Thank you for understanding that these take a while - especially when the author has gardening, laundry, etc. to do on real life.

Now that I've beaten brain cancer and am about 75% "better", I've started writing again.

Search for a new book rather soon.

10/17/2017

Having gone into the internet to check on my books this morning, I've been disturbed by the number of sites offering the books at very nearly MY price. If you really want the book, feel free to get it "at a discount", but rest assured that I had no part in this scam....

😡

06/05/2017

As Facebook insists on a cell phone for my art director - and she doesn't have a cell phone - she's signed off as the art director rather than use my cell as hers (which Facebook will NOT allow to happen). Whenever she sends me a cover, I'll post it here, but she's decided to get off of Facebook.

Because my server (who served me for 2O years) has STOPPED serving, you can reach me here for now. Sorry about any inconvenience.

Our next book is about a knight, Sir Maxwell Colburn, and his horses, which he has come to America to find farmland for. (A horse like this one accompanies him.)

But then Sir Maxwell meets Amy McCullum, outcast as a witch, but working as a missionary to a tribe of Alkonquins who befriended her father...

Our Fearless Leader calls if "Fireblossom and the Dream Weaver"...

Because I keep getting requests for web pages, I'm going to save a lot of trouble by posting my series of blogs that deal with my brain tumor. Much as I'd like to continue to do web pages, they would be a little much for me right now, so please read through these and, if you think YOU could do them, leave me a message about how dumb I am below. *grin*

In the meantime, I'm three weeks in on radiation that is supposed to last for three more weeks, then a month of getting over what they've done, and then I start chemotherapy. I hope to be able to get back into web page writing by then, but......

Thank you to all the folks who've been praying for me, and I hope to see you all soon.

As my sister wrote at the beginning of last month, I've had quite the month! A brain tumor has finally been removed from my head, 5 weeks of radiation followed by a year of chemo has been planned, and I'm debating the question as to whether to hold onto my job, which involves a lot of lifting, or transfer to a little something that's less lift restrictive...

A debate is forming. Let me know you're thoughts.

Having wandered into Bull Moose in WIndham yesterday looking for late birthday/father's day presents for my male chld, I was a little disappointed to see that the Northern Bard Publications books weren't on their shelves. Knowing that some stores get certain things that other stores don't (mostly because of the size differences), I looked to see if they showed who had actual books and who didn't....,

The books are carried for you at the Bangor, Mill Creek (South Portland), Scarborough and Waterville stores. My local store tells me that they can special order for me or that I can also order online - at a 20% discount over Amazon, for those with money issues (which is why I frequent the big Scarborough "Warehouse" store, as it's the biggest one and has a lot of books sold at a discount as well as a larger music/dvd section than the other stores in my area. I'm not made of money, either, and like a good discount on a new book.)

Might have to go take a photo for Mom at one of the stores that carry them.....

A little "spam" for all four Northern Bard Publications associated pages and my "author page" this morning, as I realized that the best advertisement I can offer Courtney Schlachter is her own beautiful business card instead of my hackneyed attempt at trying to describe how to find her. So, without further ado, the lovely bookstore that will be getting the trilogy on Friday, May 20th for those interested in going to her place in Lewiston to check them out....

Thank you again for putting us on your shelves, Courtney and Quiet City!

05/14/2016

YES! We have our first bookstore carrying our publications! Quiet City in Lewiston will have us on their shelves very soon!

03/29/2016

I just wanted to make a VERY public announcement after someone "checked in" to our office from another country and claimed we were publishing his book:

1) You CANNOT be at my "office" without me knowing about it, as this is a "cottage industry" with only three people employed and it runs FROM MY HOME. If you aren't seeing myself, Dee Jae, or Selene (who ISN'T on social media, by the way), you AREN'T at Northern Bard Publications!

2) If you want us to publish your work, you HAVE TO SUBMIT IT!
If I start seeing other books than the ones that have been past me, the EDITOR of this little company, on Amazon, I can and will take you to court for stealing our name for your publication!

3) When we sign an author, the "contract" is very simple. We pay for the ISBN number after we've edited your book. Dee Jae designs a cover, if you don't have one. Then we send it to the printer and, when it starts to sell on Amazon and Barnes & Noble, you get paid 50% of the royalties. You DON'T pay us in advance.

4) If any of this is confusing EMAIL US or MESSAGE US. Don't think we're going to ignore you "bending the rules" to try to make yourself look good!

That is all!

If you have an account at some book site such as Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Goodreads, etc., how about a good word for our author(s)? (We only have the one at the moment, but we're working on a few others.) Just a word or two if you've liked anything we've put out so far would be greatly appreciated.

Northern Bard Publications

A little more spam this morning (turkey flavored, natch):

After several emails, phone calls, and lots of whining (which is what I tend to resort to when I can't get what I want), I haven't managed to get any kind of a deal on Amazon or through the printer that will allow you to just order the three pack of books at a discounted rate through Amazon.com. (Not even a coupon, which would have been a nice gesture, IMHO.)

So, here's the "threefer" deal, should you be so inclined:

1) Drop me a message here on my page on Facebook, at the Northern Bard Publications page, via email (I'll put the whole list of my emails at the bottom of this post) or visit the page at http://galadriel_emmons.tripod.com/northernbardpublications.html, where I'll be posting a connection to the Pay Pal account that will include shipping costs (as soon as I get them from UPS, which seems to ship to most of the places I need to get these to...the exception being Mam A Bear, since UPS couldn't find her, so I had to send her last books through Fedex).

2) The cost will be as I've been stating: Buy two books at $18.95 each and get the third book free.

3) If you want the books signed by the author, PLEASE make sure to do the message/email thing first so we can exchange addresses and work out the shipping fees. (I'm willing to pay the shipping to my house if you're willing to pay the fee from me to you.)

Now, for those addresses, as I have several that I check religiously:

[email protected]

[email protected]

[email protected]

[email protected] (my "junk email" that I give to all the companies that insist on an email "for special offers", so this is really the WORST one if you want quick responses)

And, last but not least, the official one for the company, which has, so far, mostly been junk mail and scammers when I check it:

[email protected]

Thank you for your understanding, as this has been very frustrating for yours truly, since I see other companies who are able to do the "buy the series" sets, but I simply don't have the ability to get a small business loan to allow me to hold the books in stock in my "office". In order to get the loan, I have to be able to show more income than I'm making off these books, and at this point, I'm not even making enough to pay off the credit card for the ISBN, the model fees for the covers, etc. - and every marketing option I've been given just puts me further in debt with no guarantee it's going to boost sales.......

Night of the Tiger: The Author's Cut: Book One of The Tiger Series

A little serving of spam this Sunday evening, as I was just checking email and have been given the "new and improved" link, with everything properly attached, the "check out the front, now check out the back" of the paperback and the "look inside" features working....

In short, I'm breathing a sigh of relief to have Kyle and Teresanna's story corrected and up with a cover that I can feel truly proud of. The only caveat is that I can't seem to get a special three pack deal for the Northern Bard Publications versions without having you have to go directly through Northern Bard.....

Which means this lazy programmer had best get off her duff and get the web page built for ordering......

While we wait for the final review from the printer on the third in the series, this is a combination of all three covers. Many thanks to our own Dee Jae Dow for "Night of the Tiger", to Derek Yates and photographer Jae Yu for "The Tiger's Cub", and to Daniel Sobieray, Patrice Garza and photographer David Wagner for "A Wild Tiger's Heart"

10/17/2015

I've been told by someone who tried to call my cell phone and got a voice mail message that I can't say that we're open 24/7 if I'm not going to answer their phone calls. Since I can't post my ever changing "day job" hours that I have to work around and since we haven't had the influx of clients to publish things for that Selene hoped would come from this page, this is probably more correct for the Northern Bard Publication "open hours"....and if you're one of those who has an HONEST job offer (not the half dozen that have messaged or texted a form letter about "building a web site" in hopes I would be dumb enough to give you my information so you could rob my accounts....please leave a message on the cell phone or drop an email or message NBP here for us to discuss your project with you....

In the meantime, Debi has been busy re-editing "Night of the Tiger' (the first of the Tiger Series Romances) so that we can have all three books in the same size for a "boxed set" special deal on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Dee Jae has been building a new cover for that book. Selene has been ripping her hair out every time "The Two D's" gang up on her to try to convince her that we should spend more money on another model for the front cover of "Night"......because we stil haven't recouped the money Debi spent on the covers for "The Tiger's Cub" and "A Wild Tiger's Heart".

08/13/2015

Spamming it up this morning to announce that we've just discovered that there are companies on Amazon who are offering to ship our books out of the US for readers who prefer paperbacks over ebooks. SO nice to see that others are taking on that whole Customs Paperwork mess that frustrated the daylights out of yours truly when trying to get books to friends/fans in other countries (resulting in at least one "lost" book when I listened to the Post Office employee who insisted that I DIDN'T need to insure the book for a trip to Australia only to find that, when Customs "misplaces" your package, they won't bother to even TRY to figure out where it went....)

So if you're from outside of the US and want a paperback of any of my books, please go visit Amazon!

These Numbers Are Scarier Than the Predators They're Counting

As one can imagine, since all three of my published books have "tiger" in the title, these beautiful creatures, who seem to have played a huge part in my life, are near and dear to my heart...

If you have the ability to help, please do.

Thank you,

Since I posted Daniel recently, how about our other cover model?

Derek Yates, who is the marvelous representation of Chase Benton on the front of our cover for The Tiger's Cub, looking both casual and very sexy next to a swimming pool. I consider myself extremely lucky to have been able to "meet" this very nice young man who so perfectly exemplifies my character.

Show Derek some love - and if you have suggestions for other models for me, Dee Jae or Selene to consider for future covers, drop us a line or post a photo.

Have a great Thursday.
Debi

Enjoying the pool and the sun. Hope you all are having a great day so far.

After a long conversation about Facebook, models, photographs, and all the things that Dee Jae Dow adds to Northern Bard, I've convinced Dee Jae to make a page for herself so that she can be an admin (or, as Facebook insists I make her, a moderator) for this page. I've also done a "like" for two of the models I've had the pleasure of working with, Derek Yates and Daniel Sobieray.

It seems like Danel is having a tough time with Facebook deciding he's NOT a real person, so with much joking on my A Wild Tiger's Heart page, I've been campaigning to make Facebook stop being stupid.

Please join me in liking the models here on Facebook who have graced our covers. We hope to have a whole LIST of people before long.....

We're test driving another marketing ploy, as there are several local businesses that, while talking with the owners, have asked about a business card. Since the space is limited on the cards offered through Staples, we decided that I, Debi, should be the one with the first business cards and that, if we start to take off and can afford for EVERYONE to have one, we can do more along this design with other names.

So if you would like me to bring a few of these by, please contact us and let us know by hitting the "contact us" button above.

Thank you!

05/14/2015

We've discovered one minor flaw in our marketing plan so far. When one posts a free Yellow Page ad that includes a phone number to contact the company, obviously said ad serves as a "dinner bell" for all the mouth-breathers and bottom feeders of the world, as our Fearless Leader has been getting odd phone calls at all hours from odd telephones that all say they've been disconnected when she tries to find out if the call was important....

So while Debi is learning how to block phone calls from her cell phone, PLEASE do her a favor and leave a message if you're calling to take advantage of any of the services Northern Bard has to offer.

Thank you,
Selene
