An oversupply of breastmilk sounds like a good problem to have, right?
Constant engorgement, pain, tension, constant fullness, etc.
Baby is coughing, spilling milk and essentially overwhelmed at the breast while nursing. We’ve tried laid back feeding, relieving pressure by hand expressing.
Let’s talk about block feeding! *please consult with an IBCLC before introducing this*
With block feeding, you breastfeed or pump whenever for a period of four hours, but from one breast only. Your other breast will become very full of milk. The body is designed beautifully - breastmilk contains “feedback inhibitor of lactation” FIL, which causes the signals milk production to slow.
Remember that ICE is what we want to use for discomfort. Ditch the heat. If your breast that is NOT being fed from or pumped is very uncomfortable, hand express to relieve the discomfort and add an ice pack 🧊
You will want to try this for 24 hours, alternating each breast every 4 hours.
Once again, please consult an IBCLC
