Spin Up Girl Fibers

Spin Up Girl Fibers A Place for Friends and Fans of Spin Up Girl Fibers Howdy howdy! Spin Up Girl Fibers is my attempt at infusing a little sexy into the world of spinning.

I’m Crystal, aka crittlet on Ravelry, and I’m the fiber-obsessed madam behind Spin Up Girl Fibers. I’m a spinner, a knitter, an occasional crocheter, a dyer, a carder, a comber, and a lover of all things fibery. It’s home to a seductive array of hand-dyed tops – who I lovingly refer to as my painted ladies, carded batts - otherwise known as my Batty Broads, dyed locks – my Untamed Dames, and hands

pun yarns, who I like to think of as my Twisted Sistas. Stop by the shop and adopt a gal of your own to fondle. Or check out what other folks are doing with their gals in the Spin Up Girl Fibers Rav group - www.ravelry.com/groups/spin-up-girl-fibers.

Tour de Fleece Cont’d: Finished my last yarn of this year’s Tour. It’s another corespun yarn from very precious stash. I only have a few Hobbledehoy batts and she’s not making them anymore. This one of course did not disappoint. What a treat!

Tour de Fleece Cont’d: Finished plying the Shetland from Into the Whirled. I think it’ll be really pretty knitted up in color work. Hoping to get at least one more yarn spun before the end of the Tour. If I didn’t have to get ready for Southern Comforts Fiber Market, I would’ve had more time to spin. But hey, at least I’ve been fibering.

Tour de Fleece 2025: Started a new spin and managed to fill one bobbin yesterday. This is some Shetland from my favorite dyer, . I’m gonna try to preserve the colors in the fiber with this spin. I divided it in half lengthwise, so when I ply, the colors will match up. I’m usually pretty lackadaisical about colors in braids and like to let them come together how they come together, so this is a nice change of pace for me.

Tour de Fleece 2025 cont’d: I decided to switch things up with some corespinning. I’ve been trying to find ways to make art yarns that are both interesting, but still feel like something you could easily work into a project. I’m constantly getting asked what to do you make with art yarns. Depends on the yarn, but generally, they’re amazing for textural weaving, but can also be used as textural elements in knitting and crochet, especially corespun yarns. I’m also not opposed to wrapping art yarns around a frame as decor to showcase funkier yarns. People put fifteen in frames. Why not art yarns?

Tour de Fleece 2025: I’m giving up on tracking days. Life is just far too busy at the moment for me to keep up with daily posting this year. I finished plying the blue and purple targhee/bamboo/silk singles. I spun it quite fine and managed to get about 460 yds out of 4oz of fiber. It’s been washed and dried, and boy did this one bloom!

Tour de Fleece Stages 5-7: Finished the second bobbin of singles of this targhee/bamboo/silk. Looks like I did a terrible job of dividing my fiber. One of these bobbins definitely looks fuller than the other.

Tour de Fleece Stage 1: I’ve been so slow to post this year. I had a kickoff event on my front porch on the first day of the tour and plied this glorious lockspun yarn. I can’t get over how amazing grey tips. I’m so lucky to have scored such a killer Gotland fleece at Carolina Fiber Fest this year.

Tour de Fleece Days 1-4: I’ve been super busy the last few days and haven’t been able to keep up with posting. I have been spinning though. I’ve finished one skein. It’s drying now, so pics are forthcoming. Currently on the wheel is some targhee/bamboo/silk. It’s slow going, because I spun it quite fine.

My latest spin. Just a simple 2-ply. Loving how the colors came together in this one.
