Illinois views 🍂

Coming down to the wire here ! We’ve had a great trip with a lot of action, but the matute bucks have been mostly locked down making filling a tag tough. We have a good plan going into the last couple hunts, hopefully we can pull off some last minute magic!

Hunting November is a funny thing. Mature bucks are moving but you have to happen to be at the right place at the right time. You can have perfect conditions at the perfect time, and not be in HIS way.

Thats how the last couple weeks have gone for me. I feel like I’m in the game, but it hasn’t come all together. Things are happening right, just haven’t had the right deer at the right time.

This little dude however, did the right thing at the right time. It is so awesome seeing these animals do their thing. Now it’s just a matter of time before a biggun does the same thing! Keep after it!

Happy Halloween!

This is the time of year that is deer hunters live for! The air is crisper, and the bucks are frisky. I hope you get to spend some time in the woods the next couple weeks. Things are just getting started!!

The Hunt Stache of 2025 is here!

At the beginning of the season, (against my wife’s advice) I decided to grow a mustache this hunting season until I harvested a buck. For the sake of the tags burning a hole in my pocket, I hope that is soon but with a slow start to October, it looks like it’s here to stay for a while. I have to admit though; it’s kind of growing on me 🤷🏽‍♂️

Doe patrol with a little bit of drama!

With the first little cold front of October rolling in, we did a hang and hunt in hopes to lay our eyes on a 140s type 8 point that had been close to daylight on the . The weather was great, the wind was good, and the hopes were high. As the night progressed, deer started to move early and everything felt right.

Unfortunately a group of does worked their way behind us and a brief lull in the wind created some unwanted commotion. As light started to fade, one of the does started to cautiously approach, which turned this hunt into a doe mission! As soon as she got into 20 yards, I drew just in time for her to turn and completely face me. I stayed at full draw for a minute and a half!

Finally, she turned and started walking broadside within my shooting window. I stopped her as she took one last step offering me a quartering to shot and a well placed did the trick! This was the first animal I have taken with the new Killzone RX 2.0 broadheads, and they definitely passed the test! She expired quickly within 100 yards.

I am thankful for hunts like this to sharpen my skills as a bow hunter and thin the deer herd (which our area in Kansas needs so badly)!
