We will be publishing our FIRST local business spotlight in next week's issue (August 28) and we're excited to announce that we will be featuring candidate profiles ahead of the election starting in September. Our plan is to run candidate profiles throughout September and October with the final profiles running in the October 30 issue.

News isn't free. Even when it is. It takes time. One article can take three hours to produce and that's assuming it's a simple features story where all that needs to be done is interviewing a single-digit number of sources, drafting the article, proofing it and publishing it.

Running a newsletter isn't free - the Decatur Independent pays $65/year for hosting. Without a hosting platform, we could not exist.

Filing articles of organization in Indiana for an LLC is $95 - we need that to be a fully official, legally recognized business. (and also so we can post on Next Door and reach even more of our friends and neighbors!)

We keep paywalls minimal and only paywall non-essential information, e.g. one of our paywalled stories earlier this year highlighted North Decatur's then-upcoming spring musical.
