Some conductors lead an orchestra. John Young Shik Concklin leads three—and every program he builds is a story worth hearing.

As music director of the Spartanburg Philharmonic and Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra, and conductor with the Atlanta Music Project, Concklin believes the orchestra’s future lives in its community. His programming reflects that: benefit concerts after Hurricane Helene, World Cup music from Cape Verde to Haiti, and a five-concert series exploring American voices in all of their complexity.

Into the Night Woods, the debut novel by , is a gripping page-turner set in the Appalachian hills of North Carolina—where boyhood adventure becomes a fight for survival.
