Ready for a true backcountry escape?

Cumberland Gap National Historical Park, where KY, VA, and TN meet, offers rugged beauty and peaceful solitude. Experience the wilderness and sleep under the stars in the backcountry of Cumberland Gap.

The Park has 5 Backcountry Campsites:
• Martins Fork (limit of 25 campers) – via Shillalah Creek or Ewing Trail.
• Hensley Camp (limit of 20 campers) – Immerse yourself in the historic Hensley Settlement nearby.​
• Chadwell Gap (limit of 12 campers) - via Chadwell Gap Trail.
• White Rocks (limit of 12 campers) – Enjoy panoramic views from the White Rocks Overlook.
• Gibson Gap (limit of 12 campers) – via Gibson Gap Trail.

Permits are free and must be picked up at the visitor center. Call (606) 248-2817 (9 AM–4 PM) or message the park’s Facebook to reserve your site.

Trail Highlights
The park has over 80 miles of trails. Plan a backcountry trip to see the waterfall at Sand Cave, explore Hensley Settlement, and catch sweeping views from White Rocks Overlook.

Went out for a solo overnight on Mt. GREYLOCK. In northwest Massachusetts Saturday. Didn't see a single solitary soul. Just over 11 miles round trip, best day i had all week! I should also add it rained most of the trip, was cold, windy and wonderful!!!
