Looking back into my archive from 21 years ago, I found these gems…photos from the 2005 Indiana University Hoosiers football team in a Memorial Stadium that I remember so well.

This was the year that I started getting into photography. I had just recently purchased my first semi-professional camera, a Canon USA Rebel XT, and wanted to photograph everything. I had already graduated from IU, but was in Bloomington that weekend and tickets were cheap. The old big scoreboard was there and you could sit in the lawn just beyond the north end zone.

These photos also kicked off what would become decades of photography all over the IU campus, capturing changes and additions as they come. New dorms, building remodels, campus landmarks as well as remote campus locations, while trying to capture those scenes in all four seasons. Life has been busy, but I’m trying to stop and share when I have the time in between the chaos.

The Sample Gates at Indiana University are adorned with petunias for the first time in maybe, ever, and they are gorgeous. This past week, I took two trips to Visit Bloomington just three days apart, first with my family exploring Bloomington, then three days later to capture campus photos for future book projects and to get some silver screen time filming the upcoming Little Five movie with Pigasus Pictures . On set for 13+ hrs on Thursday in 90 degree heat wearing 1980s period costumes, then campus all day Friday. Stayed at the Indiana Memorial Union and enjoyed lunches/dinners at BuffaLouie's , FARMbloomington , Uptown Cafe , Lennie’s, and three visits to The Chocolate Moose . Discovered spaghetti agliati (in photos). Reminisced at favorite campus spots, took a midnight walk around campus (twice). Fed squirrels by hand in Dunn’s Woods. Drove by Dave Stohler’s house before driving home (iykyk). Quite a week! My Academy Award nomination odds might be on Kalshi soon.

Looking back at Festival of the Lakes and for me, the breakout band was The Retrograde. Opening for The Offspring, The Retrograde was full of energy and original music, led by frontman Joe Fox. Looking forward to these guys coming back through the Chicago/Indy area for a future show (in which I’d love to be the photographer 😉). Great job, guys!

The crowd put their hands up for Jelly Roll as he hit the stage at Festival of the Lakes on Thursday night. Jelly Roll interacted with the crowd, read signs, met fans, and was an all out great guy while in Hammond. He even spent the day playing basketball at the Hammond SportsPlex and ate delicious Greek food at a local restaurant.

Thursday nights Festival of the Lakes musical opener was Larry Fleet who’s popular brought his country sound to Hammond’s Festival of the Lakes during country night, opening for Jelly Roll. Plenty of phenomenal guitar and violin solos with this group!
