A day of up and downs…

Three rows set and fitted at noon, two rows all secured and permanently in place at the end of the day.

Just like the foundation being critical to the integrity of your building, the first row of your log home is critical. It determines if your walls and roof will be square and level.

So, today we made sure our home will be perfect. The time we put in today will save us over the coarse of the build, by not having to make adjustments and fixes along the way.

I’ve received a lot of questions about how we put the structure together and what do we use to hold the walls up? I’ve labeled pictures of the different steps of the process. Starting on the floor level and moving to the second row of logs.

The same technique repeats itself, up the walls. With 2-3 large log bolts, screwed between the log screws (every 16 inches) in each log.

Needless to say A Lot of screws and Log Caulk are used in the process of building a log home.

Another busy morning…

Four heavy corner posts up, level and square. First 3 rows of logs fitted and outlet holes measured, marked and drilled.

A bite to eat for lunch and now to get gluing and screwing.

Building your own home is a labor of love!💜

Wow! What A Day!

Great visit from my mom and step dad. They got to see our progress, George got our electrical box wired for us and signed the necessary paperwork, to get the electric company to come hook up the power. A huge thank you, for your help.💜

Richie worked his tail off today, with more neighborly help from Kenny, all morning. Boy, was the help appreciated! Lifting, gluing, laying, and nailing all the sheets of Advantech is no small job.

We are SO excited to be stacking logs, tomorrow! This would not have been possible without the support of our small town community and family.

Thank you!🫶

Floor Trusses ✅

Up bright and early. With help from our neighbors, headed to work, floor trusses are all up ready for bracing and decking, before 7:30!

We will be walking on the floor before sundown.

Thank you, Nathan and Cody.

Small Town Living is the BEST Living

Our floor trusses were delivered at 4:30 this evening and we got right to work getting them installed.

Within minutes we had our first neighborly visit. A check in as they saw the trusses drive by. Next, a neighbor here to help. Many hands make light work.💜

Within an hour, we had 1/2 the trusses installed, six visitors (plus 2 dog friends) and dusk had set in.

Earlier in the day, we had a visit from another neighbor with a homemade chocolate cake w/ peanut butter frosting. That will keep our building strength up!

Why move to a small town? The community!

The Calm Before The Storm

In order for this weekend not to be a complete “wash out”, with the trusses being delayed, Richie got to work on the electric.

Thanks to Nathan (McIver & Son’s) we had a trench dug and our cement ready for our our post installation. Richie laid the conduit and wire, installed the box, hooked up the parts and pieces and got to play on the mini excavator.😊

My step dad (Master Electrician) will be here later this week, to wire the box.
Then, the electric company will come and turn us on.

Now, for a little quiet time on porch by the fire, while we watch it rain.

The best kind of Fall day is one spent with good friends, sharing stories and enjoying each other’s company.🫶

I’m so grateful for these ladies. They are my besties mom & sister and have been in my life for over 35 years! This makes them my family.💜

Today, they came to see me for a visit. Nothing is as special as the people I love making time to spend with me. These are the moments I treasure the most.

Sill Plate
The sill plate is ready for the floor trusses but they were NOT delivered today, as confirmed on Tuesday.
Richie and Chicky are not happy builders.

The electric set up will move forward, job site set up, and log relocation (to building site) this weekend m, while we wait on trusses.
Fingers crossed we get them on Monday and the build can progress.

The hardest part of building is waiting on others.
