Before my mother’s mother, Catherine “Renee” passed, there were many years that went by that we hadn’t spoken. Years of generational animosity that I never wanted to repeat with my own mother or my daughter if I ever had one. In the hospital on her deathbed, my grandmother was delighted to see the woman that I had grown to become. We had a conversation talking about everything that we both missed out on over those distant years. She was proud of me that I had become an entrepreneur 13 years earlier. At the time in 2019 I was going through a very rough time in my marriage with my ex husband-I had just had a miscarriage in January and I was navigating an uphill battle with my ex-husband and his drug addiction. My grandmother wrote me a “goodbye” card that she was proud of the woman that I had become and told me that she wanted me to be successful in my career. My life looks so different today than it did 7 years ago-I divorced my ex-husband, I’m a co-founder and Technical Director of Education for a haircare and hair color company, and I just landed the job opportunity of a lifetime with one of the most prestigious salons in the country. Grandma, I hope you are proud ❤️☘️
