Tropical Storm Gabrielle has formed and is expected to become our next hurricane of the season this weekend. High surf and rip currents will be likely early next week as the storm remains far offshore. WAVY TV 10

A coastal low will allow for strong onshore winds to push water into the coastline. Vulnerable spots along NC12 will have to worry about overwash as onshore winds pick up the surf! Winds may gust over 40mph through tomorrow. WAVY TV 10

The odds of our next named storm forming in the Atlantic are growing. The timing for formation would likely be this upcoming weekend. It is still too early tell where the storm will go and how strong it will be but latest long range models are starting to come on board with a storm offshore. Could be our next big swell on the east coast if this plays out. WAVY TV 10

10-15 foot surf has been impacting the coast of the Outer Banks all day as Erin passes a few hundred miles offshore! Coastal flooding and Beach erosion during high tide has been the primary risks here. Dunes will likely take a good hit from this next high tide cycle in spots. WAVY TV 10
