This is what diaspora dollars can do!🇧🇩🏥

If I didn’t tell you where I was, you might think this hospital was in Michigan. But I’m in Sylhet, Bangladesh, inside the Kidney Foundation, Bangladesh. Kidney Foundation Hospital Sylhet, a nonprofit hospital providing affordable and, for qualifying patients, free kidney care. Patients travel from Sylhet, Sunamganj, Dirai, Shantiganj, Moulvibazar and surrounding areas because access to dialysis and specialized kidney care can be limited where they live. The technology and equipment here have been brought in from overseas, while locally trained doctors, nurses and healthcare workers provide the care.

Donors from the USA, UK, Canada and around the world have helped turn an idea into something tangible: medical equipment, patient rooms, dialysis services, nursing education, jobs and, most importantly, care for people who may otherwise struggle to afford it. This is the Bangladesh I want the world to see. A Bangladesh that is developing, a diaspora that is giving back, and communities that are building something that will outlive all of us.

I found one of the most DANGEROUS gyms in Sylhet, Bangladesh: Elevate Fitness Studio at Hotel Noorjahan Grand Hotel 🇧🇩💪🏽

I came to ELEVATE expecting a workout. Then I met Sumon Ahmed one of their personal trainers. We went through CrossFit, strength training, powerlifting-style exercises and back workouts until I was completely exhausted. I hit failure at every set… and this man kept saying “5 more.” 😂 These trainers are basically Bengali G.I. Joes.

If you’re visiting Sylhet, Bangladesh, and looking for a serious gym with professional personal trainers, modern fitness equipment and a full fitness and wellness experience, put ELEVATE Fitness Studio on your list. I also love that places like this are showing another side of Bangladesh, Bengalis ELEVATING their FITNESS. 🇧🇩🔥

This might be the most underrated part of Hamtown Summer Jams 👀🌎

Created by the Hamtramck Historical Museum and the Hamtramck Youth Advisory Council, this exhibit celebrated the cultures that shaped Hamtramck, Michigan. From Poland, Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Yemen, Ukraine, and the African American community, every display highlighted the people, traditions, and history that helped build our city.

I hope this pilot project continues to grow because the more we learn about our own history and the cultures of our neighbors, the stronger our community becomes.

Huge shoutout to everyone who helped bring this vision to life. This is exactly what Hamtown is all about.

Everyone told me NOT to fly Biman… so I booked Business Class anyway 🇧🇩🛩️

And honestly? They were wrong.
