A Farewell to The Indian – Our Year in Review

Only one thing is certain about the high school experience, the fact the end of senior year and graduation come all too soon. You go from being kings of the school to being thrust out into the real world having to make your own way in life. It's a scary thought because while you have accomplished much to get the fine achievement of graduation, everyone is all of a sudden equalized by the school of hard knocks. [ 551 more words. ]

Student on the Street: Summer Plans?

Even though there are still a few weeks left of school, most of our thoughts are already on what we plan to do for summer vacation. I asked some students what's on their agenda when we're finally free from classes. Freshman Yasmina Berkat will take her annual trip to visit her grandparents in sunny California. "I’ll be there for a few weeks so I’ll be going to Disneyland and the beach a lot." [ 196 more words. ]

Hanover High's 2015 Blood Drive

Hanover High’s 2015 Blood Drive http://wp.me/p53h5S-Zq

Hanover High hosted its very first blood drive this week, organized by one of its many new clubs, Red Cross. Early as 8 amTuesday morning, nurses, facilitators, and volunteers crowded the multi-purpose room along with donors themselves, eager to donate, yet somewhat scared for the needle’s “deadly” prick. As a donor myself, and a lover of blood during every anatomy class, I was still nervous for my first time giving blood. [ 261 more words. ]

Things I Wish I’d Known Before High School http://wp.me/p53h5S-ZK

Well, it’s that time that I honestly did not see coming, it was pretty much like a slap in the back of the head. I won’t go long with my introduction other than to thank you for tolerating my strange writing style and it’s been a delight writing for this newspaper. Lastly, this article isn’t just my advice, I asked some of my dear friends what they wish they would’ve known and I’ve included their advice in my article. [ 202 more words. ]

Girl’s Lax performing well http://wp.me/p53h5S-Zo

GLax as they are informally titled has been having one of the best seasons of the spring sports teams at HHS and they're still going strong. Heading into tonight's senior night, the team has a record of 9-3-2. The senior class has been a strong one, made up of Sydney Lambert, Marissa Nimeskern, Holly Welch, Hannah Mischler, Hannah Joy, and Liz Gallagher. [ 219 more words. ]

Finals Survival Guide

Finals Survival Guide http://wp.me/p53h5S-Z6

It's the end of the year, the weather is getting warmer, pools are opening, ice cream runs are becoming a regular Friday night event, summer is almost here . . . oh, wait. Before the mental rest and relaxation of summer can begin, students need to kick it into high gear one last time for finals. These tests assess at least half of the year of learning in each class and altogether account for 1/9th of your class average. [ 927 more words. ]

This is Not the End

This is Not the End http://wp.me/p53h5S-Z9

So, here I am. Last day of classes, last day of caring, last true day of high school. High school, oh what a time. Seven hours a day with hundreds of other kids in the same position as me, confused. We're confused why we're here, what we're doing, the whole point of it all. Confusion can sometimes lead to anger and I felt plenty of that during my stay here. [ 373 more words. ]

Pitch Perfect 2: Movie Review http://wp.me/p53h5S-XS

It’s fair to say we missed the Bellas and the rest of the cast of Pitch Perfect when they were gone. This past Friday, however, the sequel was released in theaters and pleased fans with a new soundtrack, new faces, and more Fat Amy. Sequels tend to be given a bad rap for not measuring up to the original, particularly if the original was universally well-liked. [ 330 more words. ]

Scarred for Life: Why I Can’t Play in Seniors vs Staff Dodgeball Game http://wp.me/p53h5S-Yl

The request seemed innocent enough: two senior boys politely seeking players for the annual battle of wills between HHS staff and the graduating class during the final days of school. If it had been Whiffle ball, kickball, or even flag football, I might have joined in. But it was dodgeball, a game where the primary objective is to hurl a large rubber ball as hard as you can at an opponent. [ 598 more words. ]

Mrs. Borgeson's Engineering 1 and 2 classes have been hard at work on some special projects in the past couple of months. You have probably seen bits and pieces of them around the school but are probably wondering about some of the specifics behind them. Or at least I was, so I did a bit of investigation to find out exactly what the lowdown was.

We've made it! In the next few weeks, the 2014-2015 school year will be coming to a close and summer will thankfully return. Mumford and Sons Without the Banjo http://wp.me/p53h5S-WJ

Whenever a band announces they are releasing a new album, fans respond with excitement that is half anticipation, half fear. These emotions were at their peak when Mumford and Sons announced Wilder Mind, their first new album since 2012. Since their last release, Babel, there had been doubt on whether or not there would be another album. Bassist Ted Dwayne had become very ill and the band took an indefinite hiatus. Book Review: The Girl on the Train is a Twisty Thriller for Fans of Gone Girl http://wp.me/p53h5S-VP

This seems to be the era of buzzy fiction thrillers with very dysfunctional characters and wild plot twists. Gone Girl, written in 2012 by Gillian Flynn and released last year as a movie, started the trend with the crazy story of Nick and his "missing" wife Amy. The Dinner, a 2013 book by Herman Koch about two couples in denial about a terrible crime committed by their sons, is another one. [ 429 more words. ]

Guys, We’re Talented! HHS Shows Off More Than School Smarts http://wp.me/p53h5S-VS

Talent shows get a bad rap. People always envision lame singing acts or bad comedy performances. I think those people should shut their pie holes because I'm about to drop factual bombs over Baghdad about how sick the HHS Talent Show was this year. Now sadly due to me loving naps far too much, I missed the first couple of acts :( So I'll ask other people how those went. [ 513 more words. ]

Baseball team off to shaky start http://wp.me/p53h5S-Vx

The Hanover baseball team is off to a tough 1- 6 start despite playing well in most of its games. With 15 games left, there is still plenty of time to right the ship and have a successful season. It won't be easy, however, in a tough Patriot League. The season started a little late this year after some delays due to the snowy winter. [ 608 more words. ]

Book Review: Between a Rock and a Hard Place http://wp.me/p53h5S-Vc

Aron Ralston always prided himself on doing things other people would only dream about. But one day, he found himself in a situation that, for anyone, would only be the stuff of nightmares. Ralston was hiking alone in a remote canyon in Utah when he clambered over an 800 pound boulder. The boulder came loose, he and the rock fell, and when they both came to a rest, the stone had pinned Ralston's right arm against the canyon wall. [ 340 more words. ]

Book Review: Girl, Interrupted Reveals True Meaning of “Crazy” http://wp.me/p53h5S-V2

I recently read this book as an outside read for my English class and devoured the short work in a matter of days. Author Susanna Kaysen uncovers the true meaning of "crazy" in her memoir Girl, Interrupted, which has also been made into a movie starring Winona Ryder. By age 18, Kaysen had attempted su***de by swallowing 50 aspirin at once, had an affair with her high school English teacher, and completely given up on school. [ 301 more words. ]

Stress? What Stress? I Live on Stress! http://wp.me/p53h5S-UV

With the end of the school year slowly (but surely) coming to an end, stress is at an all-time high, at least in my world. I've got my Humanities project (that includes gallery night, my presentation and actually finishing the project), AP exams, finals, and making sure I don’t fail math. I’ve tried everything in an attempt to ease my stress, but recently I gave up and accepted the stress into my life. [ 299 more words. ]

Boys Lacrosse Off to a Good Start http://wp.me/p53h5S-Uz

The Boys Lacrosse team lost a great amount of talent when the Class of 2014 graduated. Coming into this year with some uncertainty, the team is off to a good start and hopes to stay consistent. The team is off to a 3-1 start and in the "last 10 out" portion of the ESPNBosotn.com poll. Their lone loss comes from perennial juggernaut Duxbury, who, at #3 in the ESPNBosotn.com poll, is an "underachieving" 13-5 at home. [ 280 more words. ]

My Freshman Year at Hanover High School http://wp.me/p53h5S-Uo

When I look back on September, I can easily say now that I didn’t have a good idea of what to expect of high school. I had a slight advantage over going in completely blind because my 16-year-old sister Cate had already gone through the high school transition two years before. Senior Assassin: Fear The everything http://wp.me/p53h5S-U5

Wanna know what's scarier than the fact that I can roam the earth in 27 days? Being stalked by people who you never thought had a bad bone in their body as they lay on your lawn for hours, drinking rainwater, and surviving off the landscape. Their sole mission: to spray you with a super soaker.
