It’s again, and the theme this week is the infamous “Tipper sticker”. A reference to the parental advisory sticker pushed by Tipper Gore and the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) in the nate 80’s & early 90’s. The assignment was to post a record adorned with this sticker.
Thankfully, my mother didn’t care what I listened to back in the day. She would purchase these tapes & CD’s for me as a kid; no questions asked! I accumulated quite a bit of albums featuring “unsuitable content” and often picked them solely based on this as a young teen. Shout out, mom. ✌🏻😂✌🏻
I struggled between picking a killer gangster rap record or an early metal record, but I ultimately settled on one that was released well beyond the time this sticker meant anything and when I was already of age.
This is Dr. Dooom’s (AKA of Ultramagnetic MC’s) debut titled “First Come, First Served”. If you’re unfamiliar with Keith, he’s had many aliases over the years and released a TON of records. You can see the Dr. Octagon record in the top-right. That’s him with and . Dooom is a spinoff of that one (he “murders” Dr. Octagon in an intro on this record) and it’s out there. Often hilarious, but uhhhh…darkly funny. And how about that parody of the old No Limit Records/Pen & Pixel covers?! If you like your hip-hop weird & hilarious, then this is one you absolutely need. The pinnacle of “horrorcore”, if you ask me.
