I apologize in advance for the lack of information regarding today’s snowstorm. Been busy outside of DCW this past week.

With that said, snow will continue today, the heaviest will fall through 5:00 PM and will begin to taper off after 7:00 PM.

3 to 6 inches of snow is likely by the time the snow wraps up. It is a quick moving system, so I do not anticipate any locations surpassing the 6 inch mark.

SNOWFALL FORECAST FOR MONDAY:

This is my official forecast for tomorrow’s winter storm. I will adjust if needed later this evening. A general 2 to 5 inches of snow can be expected with more to the south. The snow will begin to fall after 2:00 AM Monday. I expect the heaviest of the snow to fall between 7:00 AM and 11:00 AM. The snow will begin to taper off by the afternoon and evening hours Monday.

Temperatures will be very cold while it snows allowing for accumulations on all surfaces including roadways. Plan accordingly.

**Confidence increasing on a moderate to significant snowstorm impacting the area late Sunday Night into Monday**

Model guidance is beginning to come to an agreement on a snowstorm impacting the area late Sunday Night into Monday. As of right now, we will be on the northern edge of the storm and places along the Mason/Dixon line and points south to Baltimore will be in line for the heaviest snow amounts.

A super early call suggests this will be a 3 to 6 inch snowfall for our county. My first official forecast map will be posted tomorrow. Below is a look at the last European model valid for 7:00 AM Monday.

Do not get used to the warmer weather! Temperatures will begin to crash later this afternoon and into the evening hours. Wet snow will begin to mix in before the precipitation ends between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM tonight.

Tomorrow, temperatures will struggle to reach the freezing mark, with wind chill values in the upper teens and low twenties!

First snowflakes of the season are expected late tonight into Friday! Most accumulations will be on grassy surfaces. Roads should remain fine.

Most areas will see a coating to maybe two inches of snow. The best chance for greater than two inches of snow will be in the northeastern part of the county in the higher elevations, where 2 to 4 inches of snow is possible.

Below is a look at the latest National Weather Service snowfall map. Please note if you have travel plans tomorrow in Northeast Pennsylvania, the snow accumulations will be much higher. Plan accordingly.

As mentioned a couple days ago, a clipper system will be bringing a period of snow to the area later this evening into early Saturday morning. Initially amounts appeared to be on the light side, however it now appears that system will pack more of a punch than I first thought.

Snow will begin to fly between 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM tonight. The heaviest will fall while many of us area sleeping between the hours of midnight and 4:00 AM. I expect the snow to then taper off between 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM.

I expect most of us will see 3 to 5 inches of snow with this system. Isolated 6 inch amounts aren’t completely out of the question. If you have travel plans early Saturday morning, please be extra cautious!

Below is a look at the future radar valid for 1:00 AM Saturday morning:

While yesterday’s snow is already melting away, we do have another system to talk about. This time a clipper system will be bringing light snow to the area Friday night into early Saturday morning.

Right now it appears anywhere from a coating to 3 inches of snowfall. Latest trends suggest the higher totals will be south of the PA/MD line. Below is the latest European model illustrating this well.

SNOWFALL FORECAST UPDATE:

I will just be brutally honest with you guys. The model performance for this storm has done so poorly, that if you look at my previous snowfall map, it will be completely wrong. Everything has trended south and weaker. What looked like a mainly rain event because we were too far south, now suddenly we are almost too far north for the heaviest snows. Truly incredible.

We will have rain change to snow during the early morning hours Tuesday. Rain will begin to change to snow between 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM and will continue through 9:00 AM. A general 2 to 5 inches of heavy wet snow is now likely. Highest elevations in the county could see upwards of 6 inches.

Happy Super Bowl Sunday to everyone! Below is a look at my official forecast for the upcoming "Winter Storm." After continuing to monitor latest model guidance and observations, I continue to have a hard time seeing our area receive a significant snowfall from this upcoming storm. Most of the precipitation appears to be in the form of rain, starting Monday Evening and lasting through Tuesday Morning. There will still be the potential for the rain to end as snow, especially for the northern parts of the county. A general coating to 2 inches of snow can be expected as the storm wraps up Tuesday morning.

With that said, if you have any travel plays further north, especially north of I-80, please be extra cautious as the snowfall totals will rapidly increase.

10/02/2024

The National Weather Service has our area under a Winter Storm Watch for 4 to 6 inches of snow Monday Night into Tuesday. To be very honest with you all, I do not see those numbers verifying as model guidance continues to trend warmer.

Yesterday I was thinking we would likely see 2 to 5 inches of wet snow. Now it is more looking like a coating to maybe 3 inches. I will continue to monitor the latest guidance and observations and will have map posted either late tonight or tomorrow morning.

Winter Storm on the way?

Hard to believe with how beautiful it is outside today, but yes I’m tracking the potential for a winter storm Monday Night into Tuesday. We are still roughly 84-90 hours out from any impacts, so there are plenty of details to be ironed out.

Right now it appears our area will see rain turning to snow Monday Night into Tuesday. Depending how quickly our area changes to snow, will drastically determine how much accumulations we see. As always, our area finds itself right on the border of the rain/snow. A slight change in storm path will make a huge difference either way.

My very early opinion is that our area does see rain changing to snow for a period time, especially early Tuesday. It will be a wet snow. I think most of us will see 2 to 5 inches…however the ceiling is much higher if we can change over to snow sooner. Again this is a very early call, my official “first call” map will be released sometime tomorrow.

Below is the latest European model displaying how close our area will be from the rain/snow line. Valid for 4:00am Tuesday.
