September has a way of announcing itself in the Shenandoah Valley: a little crispness in the morning air, the first hints of color on the ridgelines, and the buzz of Friday night lights returning to our fields. It's one of our favorite times of year, and will always have a place in our hearts as September was our launch month! We've packed this issue with many stories about local artists as this has been an important part of our mission!
On our cover, we're proud to introduce you to Ryan and Amber Corriston, two dancers who met at a ballet barre in Seattle and never stopped moving, first through New York City's professional dance world, and for more than a decade now, right here in Harrisonburg. As educators at James Madison University and in our local high schools, the Corristons have spent years helping students discover confidence and creativity through movement. Their story, “The Corristons: Still in Motion,” shows how the arts build community.
Fall also means football, and no one gets us more excited for game day than Tassie Pippert. Inside, she's sharing her favorite tailgating recipes, great for gathering friends before kickoff.
We're also excited to shine a light on Obsessed Aesthetics, one of our original advertising partners, as part of our ongoing series profiling the businesses that make this community, and this magazine, possible.
