What do you do when doctors and professionals tell you that you're wrong about your own child?

Mary Parker shares the powerful moment she decided that if she couldn't find the help her son needed, she was going to become the help for her kid.

After being dismissed and told she was a “crazy mom,” Mary went back to school and began searching for answers. She explored nutrition, detoxification, oxygen therapy, and other approaches while fighting to understand what was really happening with her son.

What started as a mother's determination to help her child eventually became Mary's life purpose: helping other families find answers and recognize connections that may otherwise be overlooked.

This is a story about a mother's love, advocacy, resilience, and the determination to keep searching when everyone else tells you to stop.

“That’s my baby.”

Sometimes motherhood changes the direction of your entire life.

In this powerful moment from The Common Ground Podcast, Sydney Nicole connects deeply with Mary Parker’s story of what happened when her son needed help—and she made the decision that if nobody else was going to fix it, she would.

A decade into a completely different career path, Mary found herself taking a new direction because of the love and determination she had for her child.

Sydney reflects on that uniquely powerful part of motherhood: when something happens to your child, fear can turn into courage, uncertainty can turn into determination, and suddenly the only thing that matters is “That’s my baby.”

This conversation explores motherhood, advocacy, courage, sacrifice, and the lengths parents will go to protect and fight for their children.

What would you do if your child needed you and nobody else was stepping up?

🎙️ EPISODE #56 IS LIVE!

What Happened to Her Son Changed Everything | Mary Parker
What would you do if something happened to your child—and you couldn't find the answers you desperately wanted?

For Mary Parker, the answer was: keep asking questions.

Mary joins Philly and Sydney to share the deeply personal story of what she says happened following her son's 18-month well-check appointment, the developmental challenges that followed, and why the experience eventually led her to completely change the direction of her own life.

She went back to school and became a functional mental health practitioner.

Today, Mary says her son is 21, working, preparing to graduate from college, and working alongside her as a neurotech.

We discuss:

🧠 Functional mental health
👨‍👩‍👦 Parental advocacy
🥗 Nutrition and the gut-brain connection
🧬 Genetics and epigenetics
🧠 Neurofeedback
💉 Vaccines and informed decision-making
⚕️ Trusting doctors while still asking questions
❓ Second opinions and doing your own research
❤️️ Her son's journey and remarkable progress

This conversation includes controversial subjects, and you may not agree with everything you hear.

We don't ask you to.

We ask you to listen, examine the evidence, ask questions, and remain curious.

“So me and my brother are carrying down the stroller, and all of a sudden, a baby comes falling out of the back of it…” 😳

Philly probably wasn’t expecting THIS parenting story to become a podcast clip.

During a conversation on The Common Ground Podcast, John “Philly” Fletcher remembers carrying his daughter’s stroller down a set of stairs with his brother when they discovered—at the worst possible moment—that there was an opening in the back.

His daughter fell out.

Then Philly casually delivers the line that immediately makes Sydney Nicole wonder whether they should clip the story OUT… or absolutely clip it IN. 😂

Thankfully, his daughter was okay—and Philly jokes that she apparently turned out pretty resilient, eventually finishing #2 in her high school class while earning an associate’s degree.

Behind the humor, the conversation raises an interesting parenting question: Have we become so afraid of everything potentially hurting our kids that we’ve forgotten how resilient children can be?

That doesn’t mean ignoring real safety risks. But it does open a bigger conversation about parenting, protecting children, letting them experience life, and figuring out where the balance belongs.

💬 PARENTS: What’s something that happened with your child that terrified you in the moment—but you can laugh about now?
