WHAT DOES A “MILL” ACTUALLY MEAN?

As Hatboro heads toward the 2027 budget process, you’re going to hear a lot about millage, assessed value and property taxes.

But what do those numbers actually mean for your tax bill?

We’re starting with the basics:

🎩 How Hatboro’s 2026 millage is divided
🎩 What 13.620 mills costs on a $150,000 assessed value
🎩 What a millage increase would mean in actual dollars
🎩 Why assessed value is not the same as market value

🔔 BEFORE THE CLOCK MARKED THE HOURS, THERE WAS A BELL.

High inside Loller Academy’s tower is a piece of Hatboro history that’s even older than the Lukens Clock.

The Hedderly Bell dates to 1811 — one year before Isaiah Lukens’ tower clock was installed.

More than two centuries later, both are still part of the tower above what is now Hatboro Borough Hall.

This week’s History Brief takes a closer look at the bell inside the tower.

🚗 PARKING TOWN HALL — MONDAY

Hatboro will hold a Parking Town Hall Monday, Sept. 14, from 7–9 PM at Borough Hall.

The discussion will focus on proposed changes that could limit parking to one side of a number of narrower Borough streets.

Residents can attend to hear what's being considered, ask questions and provide feedback.

No formal decisions will be made at the Town Hall. Any parking changes would still require discussion and approval by Borough Council.

THREE ZONING UPDATES

The Borough of Hatboro has posted the results of Tuesday night’s Zoning Hearing Board meeting:

🛝 Dreamland Adventure received approval for an indoor children’s playground at 330 S. Warminster Road.

🏓 At the same property, approvals were granted for wholesale electronics, wellness and physical therapy businesses. The wellness and physical therapy businesses will operate within the Dill Dinkers space.

🚗 An automobile repair shop was approved for 218 Tanner Avenue, conditioned upon submission of a formal lease for parking at the adjoining property.

The meeting also opened with a moment of silence honoring longtime Zoning Hearing Board Chair Lois “Geri” Weideman, who passed away in August.
