Worship like you are in prison! We as Christians should worship every day, especially on Sunday mornings, like we are in prison. John 10:10 tells us that Satan seeks us out to steal, kill and destroy. He does that by convincing us that we are captives to our own sin and we are just stuck with whatever cards we are dealt. The good news of the Gospel is that Satan is a LIAR and Jesus sets us free. Romans 6:6-7 Paul explains that when we accept Christ we die to our old self and are no longer slaves to sin for if you are dead you are a slave to nothing, therefore set free because you are under grace not the law.
The inmates at BDCC in Minden get it. They may be behind bars and not physically free, but spiritually they have found the freedom that Jesus promises and they don't take it for granted. When they worship they are not worried about who is watching, or how good they sound, they just thank God for the grace. When they sing "Name above all names" they shout JESUS! at the top of their lungs. It is AWESOME.
They start off the service with this mantra:
"No prayer...No Power"
"Little Prayer...Little Power"
"Lots of Prayer...Lots of Power!"
They understand.
