Running For Montana’s Future is a part of The Angel Fund that is ran by the Helena Police Department. Throughout the year, we purchase shoes for local school-aged children and the shoes are delivered by our SROs. Today, we made a large purchase of over 50 shoes that will be delivered next week. This is just the start of the school year, and we look forward to delivering many more in the months ahead.

Seat check Saturday is a great way to ensure that your child is secure in the safest way possible! Join MHP Saturday, September 27 from 11am to 1pm in the parking lot of Target in Helena for car seat installation and check by our troopers to ensure your child is safely buckled up and you are in compliance with the law.
Beginning October 1, the new Montana child passenger safety law, House Bill 586, goes into effect. This new law requires children are rear-facing from birth until age 2, forward-facing from ages 2 to 4, and in a booster seat from ages 4-9. Incorrect car seat use may result in a fine of up to $100, if not corrected in 7-days. Parents and caregivers may choose to keep children in each stage longer for better protection.

Update on Thursday, Sept. 25: The Newton Fire that started yesterday (9/24) is now estimated to be 46 acres and fire personnel were successful at holding the fire from growing overnight. As a reminder, conditions are still fairly dry across central Montana and private debris burning is restricted to the public in Lewis and Clark and Jefferson counties.

Original post on Wednesday, Sept. 24: A new wildfire was reported this afternoon southwest of Montana City and is estimated to be around 55 acres. Forest Service personnel working on the School House prescribed burn were nearby and able to respond within minutes.

The prescribed burn is now complete and fire personnel were able to achieve objectives and will be monitoring the unit overnight.

The remaining resources are assigned to the new fire report. Jefferson County, Montana DNRC and local volunteer fire department resources are assisting.
