Last night the United States Postal Service held a hearing in Helena regarding its plans to greatly reduce service in the state. It is planning to close five of its seven distribution centers, which may substantially reduce the service to the public it currently offers. MNA has testified in several of these meetings.

Andy and Lori Malby of Three Forks, are the new owners and publishers of the Three Forks Herald (Montana). They purchased the paper from Jim and JoRill Jewett of Three Forks. The paper had been in the Jewett family for many years. Andy has been employed with the Belgrade News for the past 11 years and Lori is employed with Wheat Montana in Three Forks. They are both graduates of Three Forks High School. Congratulations, Andy and Lori. We wish you the very best in your venture!

Jim McGowan, sales and marketing director of the Missoulian and Ravalli Republic, has been promoted to publisher of both newspapers.

He succeeds Stacey Mueller, who has joined First Interstate Bank in Missoula as a vice president.

"Jim brings an ideal set of qualifications to his new position, including his long record of community support," said Mike Gulledge, vice president of publishing for Lee Enterprises and publisher of the Billings Gazette. "He has been an outstanding member of the management team in Missoula and a key contributor in the creation of new digital services that have benefited advertisers and readers throughout our company."

McGowan joined the Missoulian in 2002 as digital director for Missoulian.com, advancing to director of online and classified advertising, and then to sales and marketing director of the Missoulian and Ravalli Republic.

Stacy Mantle, the former Advertising Manager of the Havre Daily News, is now the publisher. She replaces Martin Cody, who has moved to Ottumwa, Iowa, to become publisher of the Ottumwa Courier
