One little glimpse of avocado green, and suddenly you’re back in the 1970s.

The humming refrigerator. The warm kitchen lights. The sound of dishes being put away. Mom cooking dinner while the family gathered around the table. Maybe there was a harvest-gold phone on the wall and a recipe card tucked away in a kitchen drawer.

Avocado green wasn’t just a color, it was a feeling.

There’s something about seeing these old kitchens again that gives your brain that tiny rush of recognition, Wait, I remember this.

The ramps, the little elevator, the tiny cars, the tow truck, and those unmistakable Little People figures, this vintage 1970s Parking Ramp Service Center is pure childhood nostalgia.

I woke up this morning, and somehow, I was a kid again. It was 1987.

The old television was already on, playing a Christmas special. The tree lights were glowing in the corner, the windows were fogged from the cold, and the smell of coffee and toast filled the room. For a moment, I forgot what year it was.

No smartphones.
No emails.
No notifications.

Just Christmas music from the TV, the crackle of wrapping paper, the soft glow of the tree, and that incredible feeling that Christmas was still days away.

I could hear the clock ticking in the background. Somewhere, a cassette was playing. And for the first time in years, I felt completely happy doing absolutely nothing. I didn’t ask how I had gone back. I didn’t want to know. I just sat there on the old sofa.

Listening.

Remembering.

And wishing, just for one more morning.

I could stay in 1987.

Before cell phones, a ringing phone could stop the whole house.
You’d race down the hallway to answer it, hoping it was your best friend, or that special someone. The long curly cord stretched around the corner, giving you just enough privacy to whisper while Mom yelled, “Who is it?”

One phone. One line. Everyone knew when it rang.

No texting. No caller ID. No disappearing messages.

Just that unmistakable ring-ring echoing through an American home, and somehow, those little moments felt HUGE. Funny how a simple phone can bring back an entire childhood in seconds.

Do You Remember This Little Piece of Childhood?

Before tablets, screens and endless cartoons, this was enough to keep a little one completely fascinated. 🥹

The Fisher-Price Activity Centre, bright colours, spinning toys, little sounds, buttons to press, and endless tiny discoveries. For a child, it wasn’t just a toy, it was a whole little world.

You could sit there for ages, turning, pushing, spinning and exploring every little part while Mum got on with the housework nearby.

There was something so simple and special about those days. No batteries of apps to download. No screens demanding attention. Just curiosity, imagination and the sound of a happy child playing.

Looking at one today can bring back a surprising rush of memories, the room, the old carpet, Mum nearby, and that feeling that the whole world was safe and small.
